Astrid didn't miss a beat when Johnny attacked. Pulling on her Brand, she began to suck the moisture out of the air behind their adversary and his beetle-Amalgamate. The result of this was clever: A breeze began to push Johnny along faster, insuring that his blade would impact with even [i]more[/i] force. As well, as the mist she was moving about condensed, all of that energy had to go somewhere, and something would heat up. She chose to see just how hot she could make the atmosphere around their opponent - not only would the temperature increase, but the condensation would also cloud his vision. Johnny could complete his attack and the two women should be able to skirt past a hopefully blinded Child before the steam cleared. Clean and clear. Hopefully.

Upon the conman's directives, Duff lingered just long enough to fire a single Voidtip down the hallway, hoping to slow the knight enough for the quartet to escape. The soldier had no idea what their new adversary was capable of, and he didn't intend to stick around long enough to find out. Unsure of what would happen to him - a non-Caster - through the portal, but also lacking any time for self-debate, Duff ran through.
