She wouldn't blame him. She would blame the crown more than anything since they're the ones that decided to go to war, basically lost, and then chose to over tax the peasants to make up for it. But her priorities aren't really politics and government. I'm pretty sure her village knows Darius's family or at least rumors a bit, since they are the local lords.
This actually raises a question I had. Deyinger - in Orewyn, is it the monarchy that decides taxation or is it the local lords? I would assume that the lords automatically send a portion of the taxes to the royal family no matter what, but I would like this to be clarified. Edit: Also, yeah, the people of Elkwood would know Darius's family well. Especially because Elkwood is usually placed in direct control of one of the Baron's relatives (either one of their siblings or one of their children) to manage it for them. Ideally it would be given to the heir, so they can gain experience before inheriting the barony as a whole, but in Darius's case this didn't happen because he was still serving as a squire by the time he reached a reasonable age, so instead it was given to one of his siblings to manage until Darius could complete his knight training and take the position himself.
