[@Heretic] Hissing and laughing, the soldiers gave chase. The first seemed to have been joined by several others, leaping from rooftop to rooftop with inhuman grace. Their hard boots slammed into the shingles as they ran after the rogue vampire, although they weren't getting any closer. With a sudden bang a nearby shingle exploded, and then another. It seemed they'd started pulling out rifles, taking shots from the hip as they ran. After all, it didn't matter if they shot this vampire a little bit, they were supposed to be tough. And although they intended to take the woman alive, well, it couldn't be helped if she got a little bruised right? Now fully in the spirit of the hunt they hunted down their prey, some retrieving blades from their belts or firing bullets at the fleeing pair. But when Lucas came to a halt so did they, setting themselves up in a semicircle around their target. Every one of them was now holding an assault rifle, which they pointed menacingly at Lucas. There were five of them in total, including the one who had originally threatened Carol. Even now he stepped forward, gesturing for the other vampires to hold their fire. It seemed he was in charge of this little group. "Hey buddy, that was a nice run. Good thing you stopped, though. We've got a perimeter around this town, and the fellows at the edge are a lot less friendly than we are." He was smiling, although the smile was not a warm one. He certainly seemed he was enjoying himself, but his words dripped with a sort of self-satisfied glee. Like a hunter doting over a deer they'd caught in their sights. "You sure you want to turn this into a fight? Those aren't pea shooters. You, I imagine, can take a couple bullets, but her?" He shrugged in a vaguely nonchalant gesture. "See it'd be safer for everyone if you just gave up."
