Makes STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) more effective (2x instead of the average 1.5x)
Thanks to Eevee’s speed, it was able to dodge Spheal’s rollout. However, this meant that Spheal was a good distance away for its ranged attacks. Thankfully, Spheal’s focus on its rollout meant that it wasn’t affected by Eevee’s tail whip. Erza was good for a beginner, and Rory knew this. He’d have to try and get past Spheal’s low speed, and freeze Eevee, to make it vulnerable to Spheal. ”Spheal, use water gun, and then powder snow!” Rory called out, hoping that the cold water would make it easier to freeze Eevee. Right, Eevee got a good distance away from the Spheal. It could easily move further back and avoid being hit at all, but that’d mean the battle would never get anywhere. The Spheal stopped it’s rollout, which gave Erza enough time to swiftly rush to brash tactics; ”Alright, Eevee! Tackle!” Of course, the brown evolution pokémon began sprinting quickly in direction of the Spheal. When his opponent decided to use a combination of water gun and powder snow, Erza smirked with a bit of sly confidence. Water gun is a straight jet attack - he expected it as much. ”Eevee, to the left! Now, move around until you’re behind Spheal and tackle it!” That easily got rid of the water gun attack. Unfortunately, the powder is still an area attack, so Eevee was caught and damaged in the midst of the snow powder. Frozen, however? Let’s see. Powder Snow inflicts damage and has a 10% chance of freezing the target. Project rolls a d10 dice. Eevee’s fine! At half health, but otherwise fine. Rory wasn’t about to lose his first ever Pokémon battle, and called out his new tactic to Spheal, ”Qucikly Spheal, use water gun on Eevee when it’s right next to you!” Just as Eevee came in for the tackle, Spheal let out a water gun attack, ”Spheal!” And neither would Erza! His opponent seemed a little careless, hardly ever commanding Spheal to dodge Eevee's attack. Eevee, who not only was faster but also had the advantage of having Spheal's lowered accuracy help him out, could easily move past the water gun attack because he was actually running around Spheal - not in a straight line. Once his opposing pokémon used once another water gun attack, Eevee moved to forcefully crash against the ice type for a tackle attack! Erza grinned wildly, only making his command when it was time; "Great, Eevee! Now retreat and use sand attack, then tail whip! Let's distract Spheal until we have the upper hand!" "Don't fall for it Spheal!" Rory called out to Spheal, "Growl at it, and use powder snow again!" "Spheal!" Spheal growled at Eevee, following after with powder snow. This time, the wide-area attack was precise! It's a critical hit! Eevee fainted.
Erza's eyes widened as his mouth hanged open. The boy could barely believe that he lost his very first pokémon battle in such a terrible way. Immediately, he dashed all the way towards his Eevee, picking the brown-furred pokémon onto his arms and hugging the tiny creature gently. ""Oh boy, oh boy! I'm so sorry Eevee, I swear we'll do better next time, I promise you!" As the excitement of the battle dissipated and worry took over, Erza looked around searching professor Kalmia. She did mention something about healing their pokémon, yes? The boy quickly moved in direction of the laboratory and possibly to the healing machine - if there was indeed one, that is. Of course, he didn't greet the other trainer that emerged victorious today. It wasn't on purpose, though, he just became too worried about his pokémon.
