Emma felt stupid for not seeing it coming. For thinking that the week could pass quietly by relatively free of incident. No, that wasn't the kind of life they led. Not anymore. She'd tried so hard to devolve into normalcy, despite D.C.'s prejudices, despite the constant reminder of their reality on her neck, buried in the doublethink of declaring herself Subnatural, being a subnatural, but trying her hardest to convince herself she was Human. It was all so stupid. She'd been resting on the couch when it started, scrolling idly by on her phone, keeping up with the news surrounding them and texting a certain someone. of course, she didn't realize there was anything wrong until she felt the burning pain in her throat, like hot coals sliding down her esophagus, like hands pressed upon her neck. The only indication she gave was a scream cut short by her attempts to catch her breath, panicked gasps that were gone before she knew it, a moment that stretched into eternity and then was suddenly just... over. The pain subsided like nothing had happened at all. She shot up, searching desperately. Something bad was happening. A glance out the window and her questions were answered- monsters in D.C. again. It wasn't the first time- it was too late that she realized the building they were in was about to collapse.
It could only be described as a miracle, really. The fall was so sudden that Emma didn't have time to think about protecting herself, but somehow she got out mostly unscathed, landing on an upturned sofa besides Hazel. She got up slowly- her injuries were light considering they just fell from the top of a building, only scratches and minor wounds, but the wind was still knocked out of her, heart thumping wildly from the adrenaline rush that came from falling several tens of stories. She looked around- chaos around her, but people were starting to get up, the others hurrying to help those trapped and injured before she could. "Hazel-" She turned, seeing the girl was already up. Emma accepted the collar and then Hazel was gone before she could protest. Emma sighed. She still worried for Hazel, even if she was a single-minded killing machine. She couldn't exactly help her though. She held up the collar, examining it, trying to somehow divine what exactly it was that it did to Hazel. For now a mystery that was unsolvable. Instead she did her best to fit it in her pocket, roughly half of it still sticking out, but at least it was relatively secure and wouldn't take up her hands. "Transmit." Emma said, still trying to catch her breath, "This is Emma. I'm safe... over." Now, she just needed to figure out what the hell they were going to do.
