The Commonwealth has changed in the two years since the downfall of the Institute. The Sole Survivor had changed the game. The once timid and small Minutemen had grown in size and influence under the new General. Things were still harsh. Raiders still raided, super mutants still hunted in packs and ghouls still sprout out of nowhere. However, the Minutemen were quick to dispatch aid where needed at a moment’s notice. There was hope in the air. The sole survivor did what he thought was best for the Commonwealth. He saw, the Minutemen as the one reasonable option for the future. The Brotherhood were outsiders that in effect had invaded the area. The Railroad only cared for synths and they could care less for the plight of humans. The Institute had fostered fear and intimidated the populace. They kidnapped people and replaced them with identical synths that would do their bidding. However, in order to prevent the Minutemen from going into direct conflict with the Brotherhood, he used the Railroad to bring down The Prydwen. The Railroad wanted the BOS gone as they would hunt down synths and eliminate them. The Sole survivor infiltrated The Prydwen disguised with Railroad agents and planted bombs that brought the dirigible down, along with a large number of BOS personnel. While the agents were installing the bombs, the sole survivor planted evidence that could be later found implicating The Railroad in the attack. The Minutemen were apprehensive of this plan, but they along with the Sole survivor shared the view in regards to the BOS. However, it was either this plan or going on a full offensive with the BOS and losing many of their men. When The Prydwen fell, the Minutemen immediately dispatched aid and men to help survivors. In the midst of the confusion, the BOS bought the ruse and they blamed the Railroad. The survivors launched an attack on the Railroad, and they were scattered. Most of their leadership was skilled. As far as most people were concerned, the surviving BOS retreated from the area. With the BOS and Railroad handled, the Minutemen could now focus on the Institute. The Sole survivor faced a daunting choice after all; his own son led the Institute. However, he felt that he had been corrupted and abused his position. However, even when faced with the daunting task of bringing down the Institute, he issued an evacuation order and delayed the destruction of the Institute to allow them time to escape. Now it would be up to the Minutemen to bring about a change to The Commonwealth. Perhaps once again the prospect of a unified government would take hold. However, to the regular folk, all of that seems distant. You’re focused mostly on survival and settling somewhere safe. While wandering the Commonwealth, you come across the old town of Salem. You head there to take refuge due to the Children of Atom activity being reported south of the area. They have settled an old crater, and control the old lighthouse. When you arrive, you expect to find the town in ruins, but surprisingly, there are settlers. You’re greeted by a man called Barney Rook. He introduces himself as the leader of the Salem Volunteer Militia and current de facto mayor of the settlement. He informs you that all ae welcomed as long as hostilities are dealt with out of town.

There’s only one person living in the town and that’s Barney Rook. With help of the Sole Survivor, the settlement defenses were turned back on to help relieve the town of the mirelurk threat. The Sole survivor left soon after and Barney rook has made it his goal to revitalize the town.

With the help of the Sole Survivor, this refugee became an important settlement. Nestled near the hills to the North, it became a refuge for people of various backgrounds. The settlement maintained its independence after the war, and serves as meeting place for the various factions to come and discuss issues. The settlement expanded beyond its northern borders, and soon it spread to the location of Vault 111. Work is now underway to incorporate the Vault into the settlement. One day the settlement may even rival Diamond City in size and influence.

The former gas station was turned into a fortified Minutemen Outpost. It’s an important location in securing nearby settlements. Sanctuary Hills specially benefits from the added security. The Outpost is encircled with high concrete and steel walls, along with multiple sniper guard towers to secure perimeter.

The once small family owned farmed has grown in size. With help of Sole Survivor, the farm has become a large enterprise that grows a wide array of crops. A large compound for housing workers and settlers was built south of the farm, in the downhill area. Large walls have begun to encircle most of the settlement. A vast majority of crops are grown within the compound, the fields around have been plowed and been planted. Soon the fields around will grow most of the crops needed by the Boston area.

The former Drive in was cleared of wreckage and turned into a thriving settlement. The sole survivor helped the settlement start, but its settlers turned the small settlement into one of the most important locations of the commonwealth. After the destruction of the Prydwen, many of the soldiers in the BOS abandoned their posts and moved to the settlement. Here they helped build it up into a thriving city. This small faction controls Tenpine Bluff, its primary food source and Taffington Boathouse, which supplies it with water. It has strained relations with Sanctuary Hill for unknown reasons, though speculation is because the Sole Survivor favored Sanctuary. Currently Starlight City serves as a caravan hub and works closely with Bunker Hills. Sanctuary City is distinguishable from other settlements, due to construction of multi-story towers that house most of its residents, the current tallest tower being 10 stories high.

Unbeknownst to anyone but the Sole survivor, the research carried out in covenant carries on. Even though it is small in size it is one of the safest locations in the Commonwealth due to its walls and turrets. Its main trading partner is Starlight City, and many within the community have thrown around the idea for Covenant to be absorbed by Starlight. However, due to fear of synths they will not do so until they are assured the Mayor of Starlight and its council are humans.

The Vault only permits traders to visit the vault itself. However, a small settlement has formed outside its cave from Vault dwellers that wished to live outside rather than within the confines of the vault. Even though the vault itself isn’t as crowded as it used to be due to discovery of the secret vault.

This unknown vault is one of the Commonwealths best kept secret. It was turned into a large outpost for the Institute by the Sole survivor. Even though the Sole Survivor betrayed the Institute, he ensured their survival by making sure they had evacuated prior to detonating the main reactor. The survivors ventured south and entered the Vault. No one in the commonwealth knows of their continued existence, but now they had learned their lesson and would not deal with outsiders. Luckily a large number of the institute survived, and here they would be able to grow and plan for the future. They weren’t able to create 3rd generation synths for now, but at least the were left with a large number of 2nd generation synths that would provide them with a large workforce to rebuild. Due to it being an unfinished vault, all the resources necessary to build are at their disposal, as Vault-tec had left it fully stocked for building. Their only concern is the raiders in Quincy Quarry, but soon they would be dealt with to ensure their secret location remains secret.

Prior to the Prydwen being destroyed by Railroad, the BOS established a base here. They kicked out the only inhabitant and set up a military outpost that would house their soldiers and Vertibirds. Since the destruction of the Prydwen, the remaining BOS have taken refuge to this location. They’ve sent message to the Capital wasteland, to let them know of what happened. Luckily for the minutemen, the BOS are not aware of the Sole survivor’s role in the Prydwen’s demise.

Still remains the free town, where everything is allowed as long as you don’t piss off Hancock. An oasis located in the midst of a chaotic area of Boston. All are welcome, except synth. This is one of a handful of places where ghouls are truly welcomed.

It continues to dominate as the largest settlement in the Commonwealth, the center of all trade and commerce. Since the destruction of the Institute, people feel relieved and believe they no longer have to fear synths. Raiders and Super Mutants have returned to be the boogeyman once again.

The Sole Survivor as general of the Minutemen, rebuilt/patched up the castle walls, making it a powerful stronghold once again. It houses the main force of the Minutemen, made up of people from all the various settlements in exchange for aid. From here the minutemen hope to rebuild and strengthen the Commonwealth and uniting the various Settlements under one Flag. It currently protects the commonwealth through outpost located at Hangman Alley, Finch Farm, Red Rocket Outpost, Nordhagen Beach & Oberland Station

Barney Rook is a native resident of Salem, where his family has been living for centuries. He inherited his family's house from his ancestors. Dedicated to defending his hometown from anything that the Commonwealth could throw at it, particularly the mirelurks and the Children of Atom cultists residing at the crater, Barney founded the Salem Volunteer Militia to aid in his mission of protecting his hometown from potential threats. He installed several automated turrets in strategic positions around town to help combat the local mirelurk infestation, which he has been unable to activate due to the onslaught of the mutated crabs. He is a seasoned mirelurk hunter, killing the creatures for a living. Barney's personal weapon is a custom rifle called Reba. Current de facto mayor of Salem.
