All that was said was basically "A ranking won't mean much if the player can't match it," followed by "It's also worth double-checking from the opposite direction, so that the character doesn't outdo their ranking," and then "Yeah I had that problem before, here's how I dealt with it." There wasn't any need for "If you want your character to be SO SMART but then can't play it, that's your fault!" with the implication that the writer themselves would be a dumbass, or that others were whining because the stats suddenly made them unable to play up their special snowflake.
