[@Skwint] Not sure if it's entirely necessary seeing as we've got corps of mages and stuff, but maybe like a group of engineers/sappers. We could mine certain parts of the valley (in the medieval sense), lay traps such as caltrops, undermine parts of the terrain, anything that can hold off the enemy for one moment longer. It wouldn't have to be a large contingent, maybe like 20 or 30 men.
