So, who enjoys a good old fashioned magic school? Slice of life with a pinch of epic anime level battle? A fairly interesting(if I do say so myself) world with what is hopefully rich lore that you lot can help form? Okay if you're still here than the answer is probably yes and I can continue to the important meaty stuff. So full disclosure. Roughly one year ago a RP by name of Liseranna was made with a very similar concept. In fact I was in it. The GM vanished and that was the end of that. It was a restarted by a Co-GM and made into Montagne, which had a equally fair start but as forum RPs tend to do it just fell over and died. The reasons for such I am far too blind to analyze but that's hardly the reason you're here is it? Anyways this is my reboot because it feels right.
So without further ado allow me to introduce you to...
The Arkangrad Academy for Arcane Aspirants
Welcome students, to Arkangrad, to your new lives, to the place where you will develop your arts magical and otherwise. I, am Arthur Wick. In a world still recovering from a divine war fifty years past stands the beacon of learning known as Arkangrad Academy. After the war that left the world nearly devoid of gods and many other powerful beings few were left of the already uncommon magical schools, institutes that educated the privileged few that knew the truth that magic existed. After the war however there was little doubt in the minds of the modern world of the existence of magic and magical beings, what with the widespread devastation, lives lost and major cities reduced to rubble. After the war that nearly ended the world Arthur Wick, a powerful pyromancer and survivor of the war levied his resources gained during the conflict to establish a new magical academy, Arkangrad. This school, the first to emerge from the conflict would be very different from those that came before. Not only would it teach more common subjects such as math and the sciences on top of magical arts but it would also be open to those with no ability or interest in magic. In this way was the first bricks lain in rebuilding the war torn world. It has been fifty years since then and while other similar academies have emerged Arkangrad remains the premier magical academy in the world.
Lovely bit of set establishing there eh? I like to think I'm half decent at setting a scene and building a world if I put some effert into it but I digress, let's throw some mechanics in too! Of course being a magical school RP there needs to be a magic system in some form, can't be a 'magic' school otherwise. I've tried to, with help from damn good friends, create something that is both fairly simple yet has room for both complexity and creativity. Something that I can throw at you lot and each of you find different ways to play with it. Anyways no more beating around bushes here you go. The Schools of Magic The schools of magic, plainly speaking, are a system of classification that keeps everything fairly tidy. These 'schools', which include things such as fire, spirit, and spatial, is the system that has been used by mages to sort magic for nearly a thousand years. However while some mages may exclusively use one school of magic many instead use multiple schools blending them together into unique and interesting ways. For example, a wizard possessing the skill with both fire and spirit magic could with their spirit magic form a wisp like being and with their power over flame coat the wisp in a layer of fire, creating a small orb of fire that moves independently. Of course most students at Arkangrad are still potentially coming to terms with their abilities and as such only have fledgling skill with but one school while others perhaps come from a long line of master mages and have already received a deal of training, and of course some students don't have the ability to use magic at all or simply don't choose to all students are welcome in Arkangrad's walls.
Now, that should be plenty enough to spark interest I say. I'll just leave this thing here for a few days and see who/what I reel in and work on getting everything else into a proper sign up sheet thing. Of course like a sensible person I'll also check back in to answer questions if anyone has them. This is so exciting, been working on this for well over two months now, anyways I suppose I'll just do some formatting and post this now.
