When I say humanoid, I largely mean sentient humanoid, humanoids with human like intelligence. Therefore, golems would be fine.

Yes, gargoyle spirits are fine. I've decided not to do humanoids, because it makes more sense to have the spirits be beasts rather than sentient races. Otherwise the spirit might have it's own personality and everything. [quote=Everblight]

Both of those would be acceptable, though personally I would like to see a Hydra more than a Kraken, as Krakens are a bit more common. I'm not going to preclude you from doing it however, it's just a suggestion.
