What really can be said about a character that spawned from a popular web novel that serves as a self-insert power fantasy for teenagers? What really can be said about a character from any sort of isekai novel? Honestly, what sort of nuance can be gained at all, when a character has nothing going for them but their harem and their overpowered abilities?

Nothing, really. Yuuki is a milquetoast male protagonist that’s nothing more than an ordinary, perhaps sexist, first year high schooler. He can crack jokes in just about any situation, rarely takes things seriously, is genuinely perverted, and yet has a hard time coming to terms with his own emotions, especially when it comes to genuine emotions. He laughs and makes light of a situation so he doesn’t have to take things seriously, and yet, within his heart, there is still someone who seeks to do the right thing, even if that sense of right and wrong is extraordinarily black and white.

If someone (especially a cute girl that looks his age) is in peril, Yuuki will stretch out his hand and save them, even if he has to face the entire world in order to do so.

[b]Backstory:[/b]
Yuuki Kimura was just an ordinary high school boy with nothing going on with him. His friends were on the lower rungs of the social ladder, and he was part of the Go-Home Club. One day, however, a cat was crossing the road as a freight truck bore down on it. Instinctually, Yuuki leapt out, pushing the cat out of the way before he was unceremoniously splattered against the pavement.

To his surprise, however, the cat he saved was a catgirl goddess in disguise, and his valorous task earned himself both a new life in a different world, as well as a powerful ability that would allow him to live a good life there. Also, it would have gotten him some divine intercourse, if it wasn’t for the fact that he booked it out of the afterlife as soon as the catgirl goddess started baring her shoulders.

The world he found himself in was one out of a JRPG world, and after accidentally pulling out Caliburn from a village, Yuuki quickly realized that: 

A.	He had the unique ability to draw out the power of all legendary items, titled ‘EX-Rank Compatibility’.
B.	By drawing out the King-Selecting Sword, Caliburn, he was now the king of his very own kingdom.
C.	The Queen, the Princess, and the Knight Commander were all obligated to spend plenty of time with him, in order to help him become accustomed to kingship.

It would have made for a great time, really, if it wasn’t for the fact that the sword he now contracted with, Caliburn, was also an incredibly jealous sword-spirit, cockblocking every good moment he built up.

And from there on, Yuuki continued on with pointless adventures throughout various arcs, gaining a new overpowered weapon and a new girl every volume. As of present, EX-Ranker has over seven hundred chapters released online, as well as three spin-off adaptations and an anime announced tentatively.

Yuuki carries a massive amount of weapons, pulled out through the extradimensional divine vault, [b]Tor Von Weishcallt[/b], enough that it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to assume that he has one for every situation. However, these weapons, despite their jaw-dropping power, can’t actually be used due to the restrictions of the world he finds himself in.

[b]King-Selecting Sword, Caliburn[/b] – A radiant longsword that holds the power of a fallen god within its blade, it is the only sword in the world that can slay the Demon Lord. Its main power comes from the ability to project a beam of light capable of searing through a large mountain, while it also has various healing and physical-enhancing abilities.

[b]Origin-Guiding Light, Shen Shou Jing[/b] – A large shield with a reflective surface, the Shen Shou Jing can negate even the power of God themselves, turning them into mere mortals, and is nigh indestructible, withstanding attacks akin to nuclear explosions without even a scratch. In its face, even the greatest warrior is a mere infant.

[b]Maker of Hell, Blaze Reaper[/b] – A scythe that burns with the flame of hell itself, Blaze Reaper is the fabled weapon that would mark the end of the world. One strike into the planet causes a flame that can never be extinguished, turning the world into one of nightmarish flame, eventually reducing it into a second sun within the solar system.

Thirteen Fates, Thirteen Lives, Thirteen Hopes[/b] – The crystallization of a certain cat goddess’s affection for Yuuki, created by sacrificing her own divinity to the Patron of Forges, the Thirteen takes the form of thirteen massive spears, controlled by fate. Each spear belongs to one of thirteen parallel dimensions, and wipes the existence of that which it kills, allowing for the complete eradication of any individual from the fabric of existence.

[b]Genocidal Trumpet of Ruin, AZRAEL[/b] – A trumpet made of pure power that drives all those that hear it into a berserk madness, stripping away knowledge and personality, transforming them into monstrous beasts that would bring about the end of an era. A skilled user could make those trumpet toots heard across all three realms, or make it so that only a single individual hears it.

[b]Last Prayer in a Silent World, A Nameless Flower[/b] – The single flower found in a destroyed world, the Nameless Flower allows for the recreation of life, giving the individual the ability to recreate a destroyed world, even if the Death Gods themselves conspire against the creation of new life. With this ability, even the second sun created by Blaze Reaper can be reverted. It is the ultimate, unlimited reset power.

Heaven Perceiving Gear, Antikythera[/b] – A gear that enables one to convert concepts into tangible objects, allowing one to push, pull, and otherwise manipulate them. The simplest application of this artifact is time stop, but more advanced applications allows one to remove or add the concept of death, bend space willy-nilly, change the common sense of cultures, as well as a variety of other strange things. It is, put simply, the calculation device that allows one to become a God.

Yuuki Kimura, outside of his ability to make all magical artifacts his own and attain a mastery of them that could only be considered divine, also possesses a certain passive ability. Like all isekai protagonists, he has the power to passively make cute girls that he interacts think of him fondly, with growing buds of affection blossoming within their hearts whenever he’s in their presence.

Outside of that, he’s nothing more than a normal high school kid.
