Camilla bit into a green apple with a satisfying crunch. To her surprise it was sour but not in an unpleasant way. Taking a loaf of bread she tore it in half and began to eat ravenously. She made a note to stock up on provisions before they left. Several knights passed by heading off on some errand and she realised that dawn must be breaking and the watch was changing. Ducking back into the store room she retrieved a stone crock of cider and poured them each a mug before replacing the vessel. "Do you think that the warriors outside will attack the castle?" she asked in a hushed voice. In her heart she had imagined that the enemy might judge the job to be hopeless and abandon them. Beastmen were fearsome in their own right but she doubted that they had anything like the disciple to conduct a siege. "I saw a siege once, in Ramalfi," she said around a mouthful of bread, "They had engineers and cannons and they had been at it for months when I got there." She remembered the zig-zaging ditches the filthy laborers had been constructing. Saps? something like that. As she recalled he siege had eventually been broken by some other city state or another that decided that a weakened Ramalfi was preferable to a stronger Tratio. "Are beastmen going to be able to ..." she trailed off as a sleep deprived Gilderoy entered the room, his face darkening when he saw Cydric with her. "My Lady, whatever are you doing up at this hour?" the knight asked dissaprovingly. Camilla noticed that the cuffs of his tunic were stained with something and though she couldn't tell what it was it gave off a slightly acrid odor. "I can have servants wake you when breakfast is served." [@POOHEAD189]
