[b]Backstory:[/b] Geoff's father was a scientist studying the inner workings of the universe. During an experiment, he was exposed to large amounts of cosmic energy. It caused his genetic structure to alter, and while there were no outward effects on him, his son was passed on the altered genes.

 His power lay dormant until he was fourteen, when his father was attacked by a gang of muggers. Geoff projected a forcefield instinctively and saved him. He quickly discovered his powers after that, and left Earth due to his lack of control.

After wandering the universe for weeks, he was found by the Silver Surfer, who taught him to use his powers before returning him to Earth. Now in full possession of his abilities, he sought out other mutants to help them as the Surfer had helped him.
