The crowd had been cheering the current match going on between a young woman wearing a gi, and a…clown. Every time the guy did a cheesy pose, the crowd booed and scoffed, shouting remarks like: “Are you taking this tournament serious?” and “What an idiot!” Really, the crowd had been mostly on the side of the girl because many males in the audience thought she was kawaii~. As for being one of the few men who thought differently, Sun was disappointed by what he was seeing. The man was sitting in the stands, wearing a black hoodie with a white Mickey Mouse silhouette on the front. The hood was drawn up over his head, over a white cap that had an orange bill. Alligator-green cargo pants ran down his legs to a pair of cloth sandals whose thong comfortably fit between his lengthy toes. His toes seemed to grip the edges like an armrest, half an inch from touching the ground—it was always hard to find his size (especially in Asia!). He stretched out his right big toe, which was pretty much an opposable thumb and used it to scratch through the material of his pants at the side of his left leg. In his lap was a bucket of buttery popcorn (curry flavored) that he was scooping handfuls of and tossing into his mouth. He not only heard the cheers of the crowd around him, but the loud crunch, munch, munch of the corn being crushed between his molars. This fight is so lame, Sun thought as his jaws parted, the tips of his sharp canines glinting in the light briefly before a yellow pile of popcorn passed into his mouth to fill his cheeks. Suddenly, there was a change in the crowd’s volume as many audience members screamed in distress when the costumed clown was ejected from the arena to crash-land into the stands. Several heads snapped in the direction where the fighter had landed on a few unfortunate individuals who hadn’t been quick to dodge. The cell phones sprouted about the place like weeds as people started recording the incident. It would be on YouTube very shortly. The girl had been strong, but it was wasted on fools. He couldn’t understand why she even bothered to take her opponent seriously. This tournament would have pissed me off… He was glad that he hadn’t applied even though he almost did. The tournament had been the reason why he even bothered to come to Japan. The sky began to darken, the gleam on his black shades fading. A drop of water fell upon his nose as clouds billowed overhead and squeezed their moisture upon the stadium. A frown weighed on the corners of Sun’s lips as he gazed down at his popcorn that was now ruined. Only a few umbrellas were deployed about the arena by those who always seemed to bring one just in case. What a horrible day this has been. First a shitty tournament and now rain? It was as though the heavens were crying—probably because of how pitiful the fight had been. Drawing his hand from the popcorn bucket, Sun wiped salt and butter on the side of his pants and set the popcorn aside.
