Faust Arzt
Faust was laying down lazily on the sofa. The television was on, but it couldn't be said that he was in fact watching it, he really only wanted some noise... Ironically enough, he hated silence. He had no qualms about living by himself, but he hated that terrible silence the entire day. It was something personal, he needed his music, his games or at least some type of noise to ward off the terrible boredom that plagued him the last two months. He was in that moment of his life that you stop and ask yourself 'What now?'. He couldn't say that he had a dream job, but he was satisfied with it. He earned a good amount, was able to work at home... Sure, it was ironic and kind of disappointing that all the 5 years that he spent on the college turned out being useless, at least for now. He had to admit... He missed the college sometimes. "Not even a single call..." he said, throwing his smart phone up repeatedly in an unsuccessful attempt to ward off the boredom. All the people he used to hang with on the college disappeared. Everyone continued with their lives, some moved to another country, some got married, all of them were so anxious to see where their lives would "start", making plans to their future & etc... But Faust? No... Faust had no reason for being anxious. He just lived his life, day after day. He had everything he wanted (which honestly, wasn't that much), his books, music, a good home, his computer, good food... Boring? Maybe, but for him, it was the best thing to do. Many of the young adults these days were excited to see the world, to leave their mark on history... Many of them still nurtured their childish dreams of 'being different' of 'changing the world'... "I wonder if I were more naïve, innocent and childish... Maybe I could be happier?" he thought to himself, chucking at that thought. The childish dreams of being an astronaut, of being a police officer! Who knew what the future had reserved for them! Such childish dreams... so fickle, so fragile, and so sweet... Illusions were always much more sweeter than the truth. He couldn't blame that some people clung to those illusions so desperately. These last months he was simply feeling that nothing really excited him. He had no reason to wake up the next day. He even tried to volunteer himself to that interspecies program... Maybe that would change something? Bring something exciting and new to his boring life? "Wait..." he said, interrupting his old man ramblings as he remembered the interspecies program. "It was supposed to be today, wasn't it?" he asked himself, taking a moment to look at his smart phone, checking the date. "Oh nice. It's not today." he said, continuing to throw it up and catching it again. "I almost forgot about it. Tomorrow I'll make something to welcome them..." he thought to himself, until he was interrupted by the doorbell. "Probably someone trying to sell something to me again... If I ignore them they'll probably go away." He thought to himself. "Ahem, Mr. Faust Arzt? It's from the inter-species program." A voice said, coming from outside just as the doorbell rang again. Faust was so surprised that he forgot to catch his smart phone, which landed right on his forehead. "Damn! I'm so sorry! I'm going, just wait a second!" Faust said, rubbing the small bruised spot on his forehead, getting up and running to his room. "Shitshitshitshitshit" he thought to himself, quickly changing his clothes to a navy green cargo shorts and a simple, black t-shirt with a logo of a famous metal band. He wasn't expecting that... He had nothing ready... No food, tea... nothing... "Well... at least I cleaned the house yesterday..." he said to himself in a nervous joke, trying to calm himself down. He truly wasn't expecting that. Sure, he was extremely excited, but that didn't help him to think straight and calm down at all. As he ran towards the front door, he turned off the TV and opened the curtains, to let some of the sunlight come in, after all the living room was looking like a crypt, with all that darkness. Quickly passing his hands through his hair, he opened the door after good 10 minutes. "I'm sorry for taking so long mister...?" he asked, with an awkward smile on his face. On the other side of the door, a rather short, stout man wearing a black suit and carrying a suitcase was impatiently waiting. "Lewis... You haven't read the message we sent you, have you?" the stout man asked, with a disappointed expression. "Message...? Uuhhh...." he said, getting his smart phone. To his dismay, there was a big message in the screen, displaying that he had an unread message. How did he not see that? He was sure that yesterday when he was charging his smart phone... Oh... That's right... it was completely without battery, and when he turned it on again, after charging it, he forgot to set up the date and time... "A smart phone huh? Let me guess, no battery?" the man asked after watching Faust's confused expression as he looked at his smart phone. "I'm terribly sorry Mr. Lewis. Could I offer you some coffee or something to make up for this?" Faust asked, with an uncomfortable smile. Faust was genuinely sorry for that. He was known to always be on time for any commitment, but he had completely forgotten about this one. "Just be more responsible next time... I can't really blame you for that. I'm in trouble myself thanks to those stupid smartphones... They run out of battery so freaking fast..." the man said, looking angrily at his watch. "Well, I'm already very late to an important appointment, so take these and... good luck." the stout man said with a sly smile, putting all the paperwork on Faust's hands, making a small hand signal for the inter-species to go in and walking away. "Umm... I'm terribly sorry for all this. It was in part my fault as well. I completely forgot about today." Faust said, putting the huge pile of papers on the desk behind him. "My name is Faust Arzt, It's a pleasure to meet you. Please, come in! Would you like something to drink or eat?" He said, turning back to see his new guest. [@Lady Selune]
