The Duchess
The Duchess knew what day it was. It was the day she had been trained for. A chance at true justice. Lady justice was blind. And ironically, darkness engulfed the duchess too. She felt her way through her surroundings, searching. Desperately she punched her hands everywhere. Alas, no sound, no movement. Just darkness and tickling. Boom! She hit something.. eh.. ‘Oh-oh’ “Hey! Stop that.” A man’s voice? She felt her whole world shaking. But there came a light in the darkness. Before her eyes there appeared a ray of light. Reaching her hand forward, she could actually touch and move the darkness. And the light was glorious! It was fantastic! It was.. it was so very bright… Her eyes started to hurt. Dolores lifted her head out of the box she was in. Blinking and with a bit of pain in her eyes, she looked over at agent smiths, who now aimed the flashlight at herself. “It’s ok, Duchess. The boys have had a long day. ” She looked to the left to find an angry looking gentleman in green and brown clothes sitting next to her. “We don’t get payed to be punched by non-human box crawlers!” And with those words, her little fantasy bubble burst. She wasn’t a real superhero. She even needed help for just moving from the military. The military!!.. In the comics, these guys were always late to the party, just really ineffective or even the bad guys… Without saying a word, she sank her head and lowered herself back into the box she was in. “That’s enough, soldier. You’re giving me 50 as soon as we get back to command, you hear me?” With a surprised look the man heard the words. With a clenched fist and a grumbling tone he answered: “Ma’am, yes ma’am…”. As he now looked away, the truck came to a halt. Agent Smiths stepped out of the truck and the soldiers started moving the boxes and metal crate into a van. She took the time to inspect it all when she couldn’t help but notice how the duchess was still in her box. She walked back to the car. “Eh, Dolores? You can move to the car now…” The duchess replied muffled from within the box: “I don’t want to… leave the box behind….” Agent Smiths made an uncomfortable smile. “The others boxes are all going to be moved too.. and besides.. why do you carry that thing around anyways?” Her head popped back out of the box and so did her feet on the other side. “I just like it, ok?” She put up a frown. “And I don’t like to be called Dolores…” She muttered. Agent Smiths smiled for a moment. “Alright. I’ll make certain you arrive safely at your new home. All boxes included, Duchess.” Dolores smiled with excitement. “Ok.” She lifted the foam filled box and rushed over to the car. She nearly bumped her tendrils into the door. The duchess was in the car. Slightly nervous. Looking over to the agent and wondering “who would I be staying with?” She really wished she could see into the future from time to time. Looking out the window she saw something she had never before seen in her life. “What are those tall things? They look so grey and unnatural…” Miss smiths came to the realization that her training program might not be entirely perfected yet. “Those are buildings, dear. You will be staying in one. Or rather… your home will be staying in one..” The wind blew heavily as the car pulled to a full stop. It was still dark and would not be long before the night would end. Agent smith opened her window slightly. “It seems we are a bit early. Well, I guess you get to spend a little extra time together.” Dolores now put the box on her lap. She opened the car, gave the sign to the military movers and approached the door. “Would Nick be up?” [@PaulHaynek]
