Not strictly modern, its setting is in the Modern-Day Earth, giving you a period of time you can be comfortable with :P Allowing you to create a character/ship while having a set of parameters to build within. :P

Unless I'm completely blind and it does say somewhere in there that it is strictly modern, then my ship may be a bit out there then XD (Mainly the propulsion systems)

Plus, nothings more fun than having modern(-ish) ships fight aliens or giant, towering monsters. (Or the Fleet of Fog, but lets not fight them please.) If we do anyway XD
