[@Lady Selune] How about a local Viet Cong that knows the terrain and is acting as their scout and guide? They're a Northern unit just arriving in the Central Highlands, they might need a grizzled old cuss that fought the Japanese, then the French and now the Americans. A guy in sandals and peasant pajamas with an old Mosin or even a French MAS-36 (or something else entirely.)
