well that's finally done
Full Name: Aberforth Earthmover Nicknames/Aliases: Vigo’s Maul Age: 27 Gender: Male Occupation/Class: Formerly a land-less laborer, Formerly a Temple Protector, currently a prisoner (in that order) Kingdom of Origin: Miriand Description: BIG. Standing at 6’4”, and weighing 231lbs, Aberforth’s imposing mass is not to be trifled with. His skin is somewhat brown, made even more so by the layer of dirt that tends to be on him. His eyes are large, and a dark brown so deep it almost seems to be an extension of his pupil. His unkempt black hair curls down in a mass, obscuring his ears on the way down to his shoulders, often blocking his eyes now that he’s not allowed his hair tie. His eyebrow and beard are similarly unkempt, though this was also the case beforehand. His nose is long and pointed and his lips are full. There are a number of scars on his chest – one from a very deep wound by his left shoulder, and he’s missing his right pinky (work accident). Right handed, though both of his hands are calloused and tough. He’s got an ingrown toenail on his right toe, and his finger and toenails are, expectedly, also long and ratty. He probably doesn’t smell that great, either. Equipment: Currently? None, except his boots, pants, and shirt. Somewhere in this prison (probably) though, are his…. -Maul: this thing’s a bloody monster of a weapon: blunt head on one end, pick on the other, spike out the top, all mounted on a tough oak pole, about a foot and a half in length. This is a one handed weapon. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/47/e1/dd/47e1dd9fe677df7f631c04b03c40abe0--war-hammer-maul-weapon.jpg -Spear: about 4.5 feet long. -Large, Round, Wooden shield: covers his entire body if he squats a bit. Painted in dark green and sky blue. -chain shirt, woolen kilt, leather gauntlets, iron helmet, hairband. Personality: Abe is a relatively unremarkable man, very good at taking orders and incredibly protective of those who have earned his trust (which is given altogether far too easily). He’s quite communally minded, willing to give his life for anyone in his squad, and his shame at failing at this task, instead being conquered, weighs heavily on him. -Abe greatly dislikes complainers. You don’t complain, you fix the problem, or find someone who can. -Abe is deeply protective of the Gods and their Clerics. They will return, and they will deliver this world from chaos, if only people would start worshipping them again. -Abe is, unfortunately, a bit sexist, and does not respect the idea that women should be allowed to lead, let alone be the sole users of magic. A close friendship with a female rebel compatriot helped him learn that not all women belonged in the domestic scene, but he is still less likely to trust the judgement of a woman, or respect the authority of one. That being said, there’s really not a huge amount going on in his head, all things considered. He’s pretty content to just watch the world go by, and jump onto the train only when someone else encourages him up on there. Skills: Protection of Vigo: Whether by divine protection or some sort of innate magic skill, Abe is occasionally able to dodge or parry attacks he had no way of seeing, and he has taken many more blows than he should have been able to without taking serious injury. This protection ebbs and flows for reasons he does not understand – though he rarely even notices its effects, and only attributes it to the gods since he is reverent to them. However, the GM should probably know its perimeters, and they are as follows: -Abe is never conscious of why he gets premonitions; he simply sometimes thinks he should duck, do a strange parry that turns out to have been particularly advantageous, or turn around. Oftentimes the action isn’t even conscious, though this is rarer. -the more lethal the danger, the more likely he is to notice it. -Abe also gets premonitions unrelated to physical activities (palace intrigue and the like), but rarely acts on them, as they are much more nebulous and never immediately useful. -spending the evening exposed to the night sky will strengthen this ability; spending two full nights outside will give him a certain chance to get some sort of warning before something that would have otherwise killed him occurs. Strong and Tough: Abe has spent his entire life working hard and walking a lot. While not built from constant training, his body is nonetheless quite strong thanks to many long hours of backbreaking labor. Handyman: especially good at woodwork, Abe can put together a number of useful materials, including his own shield. Weaknesses: Untrained: with relatively little actual disciplinary training, Abe is not much good at the parts of military life that surround fighting – discipline, forced marches, and the like. His time as a rebel reinforced an unregimented and fluctuating life schedule, which is just as he likes it. As one might imagine, he is not adjusting to prison very well. Poorly Armored: it was never really the rebellion’s highest priority to get better armor to some random dude guarding a temple to the god of death, but they did send him a nice chainmail at one point. He would certainly not be averse to better armor. Fatal Flaw: Always present, but never in the spotlight: Abe is not built to be a leader; he does not have the will or the smarts to do so. In the absence of a leader or other directing force, he is easily lost, and rather nervous of making decisions for himself. This will also make him easily accepting of a new directing force, provided they at least make a face of supporting his few set-in-stone ideals. Brief History: Most of Abe’s youth was spent working for his parents on their farm in various capacities, but when his father died, he was edged out of the will by his more aggressive brothers, and ended up homeless – though not really destitute. They hired him back on as a farm hand, but he grew bored and moved to a moderately sized Miriand city after a few years of wandering. He wandered within the city, too, doing jobs for whoever was willing to pay, and spending a lot of time at the large local shrine to Vigo, feeling drawn to it. Things eventually got dicier and the local cleric needed a helping hand anyway, as he was getting quite old, so he hired Abe on. His job slowly became less and less learning the rites of Vigo and cutting firewood, more and more actively protecting the city and temple from raids. Eventually though he and local ringleaders were driven from the city into the forests, but were later caught in a rather vicious battle.
