[@Didgeridont], what sort of specific level of cyberpunk are we looking at? I assume Shadowrun is a fairly common vasis, but there's also Eclipse Phase (where egos sleeve into morphs, etc). I have a pretty decent character in mind for both cases, but I'd of course have to modify to fit this. Would we likely have an AI partner in our heads like those prevalent in both systems? Are there any particular cyberpunk player tropes or themes you would encourage or discourage?
I'm definitely taking much of my inspiration from Cyberpunk 2020, although this is by no means based solely upon that universe. I'd like to focus more on a society and culture that has been, more or less naturally, consumed by corporatism and multinational/globalist interests. I'm definitely straying away from the tales of global superpower conflict that has been expressed in the timelines of many given cyberpunk roleplaying materials (no continuation of the Cold War, or WW3, or invasions of developed nations). I was seeking to model the setting as a continuation of our own timeline, where a rather steady, if uneasy, peace is maintained between the big players on the world stage. While this peace allows trade and consumer culture to prosper, what happens when that consumer culture becomes all-encompassing? When it is left unchecked, what stops huge corporations like Alphabet or Facebook from amassing such wealth that they become untouchable? What happens next, after they do become untouchable? The setting is of a future gone mad. Where technology often hurts more than it helps. While cybernetics are a bit fantastical, they are a staple of the setting, and their negative effects on the human physche reinforces the theme of conflict between people and the higher powers who sell them these robotic arms and legs. I'm not exactly partial to Shadowrun mainly due to the elements of fantasy being so ever-present within the system (magic, orks, etc.), and I don't have much experience with Eclipse Phase. I don't really think that unique AI partners within every person's head would mesh that well within the setting, as I would prefer AI to be of a more mysterious, grandiose scale, like in Gibson's work. I have much of the OOC written, and will most likely post it either tomorrow night or wednesday morning (EST). If you have any more questions or ideas you would like to share, let me know.
