I'd highly recommend playing what interests you versus playing to fill a role.  You can't be of much use to anyone if you become dissatisfied with your character and lose motivation.  Anyway, if I remember correctly, Awakening Robin could only naturally promote to Grandmaster, but a more supportive Sage class can be chosen to allow healing without diminishing spellcasting ability.
