Her academic and extracurricular demands were at an all-time high, thus not allowing much time for her mind to wander. That past Monday, the celebration had been cut short after the one toast, as the girls shifted their focus back into their history test. Then came English homework, the precalculus quiz, the chemistry presentation… And the never-ending dance practices. The District competition had happened that past Saturday, and it was without question that the Normans Dance Team had dragged the competition and earned their well-deserved first place and spot at Regionals. Of course, the road to the competition had been anything but smooth sailing. Audrey had turned into nothing shorter than a dictator that week, accepting no mistakes and making her team practice long hours every day until she was satisfied. Along the way, a handful of girls were ‘benched’ for their subpar performance (including our friend Freckles Jensen), thus leaving only the girls who had demonstrated they were capable to step up to the challenge. In the end, Audrey’s decision of benching some girls -albeit brutal at the time- had proven to be the right one for the team: their first place had been irrefutable. Only after that were the A Team girls able to take some time to properly celebrate their achievements. It was safe to say that Audrey had been too busy to notice Alexandros’ absence. She’d heard hallway murmurs here and there about how he’d been spending his time away from school, but she'd been quick to tune them out. She had promised herself that Alexandros Mossos was old news, and she planned to keep it that way. That is, until Alex himself showed up to her table at lunch that following Monday. “Well well well, look what the cat dragged in…” Lola muttered to the girls, scowling at Alexandros. Displeasure seemed to be the prevailing sentiment in the A Team table, as every girl except Audrey wore the same disapproving scowl in their face. Their leader’s expression, however, was one of confusion. “I'm sorry, are you lost?” Leslie shot at the Greek-Italian boy, crossing her slender arms in front of her. She looked as if poised for a fight, but after exchanging looks with Audrey, Leslie relaxed a little. The scowl never left her face as Audrey took control of the situation. “What do you want?” Audrey asked Alexandros, eyebrows raised and lips poured in suspicion. He began by mentioning how clever she was -not that she didn't know this already, but compliments were always welcome- before taking a fry from her plate. This fucking annoyed her (everyone knew you never touched Audrey’s plate unless you wanted to get injured), but this one time she gave him a pass. At the sight of her genuinely bewildered face, the blue-eyed man revealed his reason for the visit: suggest she had been the mastermind behind the Mayor Sauveterre fiasco. Audrey smirked as she heard his words, taking a bite out of her burger to build up anticipation for her answer. The smirk was replaced by an annoyed look when Alexandros had the audacity to steal yet another fry from her plate. “Touch another one of my fries, and I swear I will stab you.” Audrey warned, pointing at Alex with her plastic fork. She swallowed the burger bite and took a long dip of water before getting back to answering his allegations. “But seriously, though. I had nothing to do with what happened to dear Florrie’s daddy,” she said earnestly, using the nickname Lila had used for Florence to mock her and giving him a shrug. “But I can't say the timing of the events wasn't convenient. What can I say? I'm blessed.” Audrey declared, putting her hands together in front of her as if in sassy prayer. “Hashtag: Bleeeeessed.” the rest of the girls called out, imitating Audrey’s sass-prayer pose. The brunette couldn't help but snort at her friend’s antiques, especially since she knew they were meant to annoy the Mossos boy.
