Call him Ringo! Age: 19 Personality: Rinato has always had the most intriguing tastes, bearing a strong resemblance physically and mentally to his grandfather. He's never typically been one of strong faith, and doesn't place much in gods and the like, having never witnessed a true 'miracle' himself. Despite this somewhat pessimistic outlook, Ringo is actually quite joyous in his youth; he likes to drink and party and live like a bum, as his thrill for new experiences never quite wears him out. Always bubbling with energy and a real lack of manners, Ringo has found himself many times at the mercy of his elders, having done something or said something at the wrong place at the wrong time. A characteristic which has plagued him most of his life - a curse he calls 'bipolar luck', which he describes as: "Always either really good luck, really bad luck, or both." Though no actual curse truly hovers over him, much to his parents relief, Rinato has been the epitome of bipolar ever since he was young, and to this day suffers from the likes of this curse. Aside from his eagerness to be a rule-breaker and a rebel, Ringo is pretty standard as far as a selfish, stuck-up smart arse goes. Unless you count his fascination with occult studies and monsters 'interesting', in which case, you may find Ringo is more than he is at first glance. History: Rinato Hjelmen was a pretty ordinary farming boy living just outside a large town, called "Parpian". Parpian wasn't really the place for Ringo; though he got on with everyone there and all, he felt that it wasn't quite the life for him. As a child he always did things his mother and father would scold him for, such as doing reckless boy stuff and even 'accidentally' breaking the law a couple times. He straightened out after one particular incident in his early teen years injured his crush, and has since not only given up on being a law-breaker, but also a romantic as well. Although, it's pretty obvious to most that he's quite desperate. Always at his grandfather's side, Ringo grew up on tales of his grandfather, an adventurer, and fell in love with the concept at a young age that he, too, could become one. It took months of begging before he finally caved in, promising only to train Ringo in both swords and spells if only he would take care of his grandfather's most prized artifact: A book with a strange insignia on the front, which looked like a flame. All but happy to accept, Rinato never knew the secrets truly behind the book, and would later become his primary reason for venturing beyond the simple life in town. He had his grandfather's blood in him, and discovered his gift for magic three years ago, as well as a strong proficiency with a sword which resulted from years of training. His magical lessons, however, was cut short by the passing of his grandfather. One of his final teachings was behind how the book could amplify the spells Rinato cast, and therefore could make him a decent mage: a shortcut in what would have taken years more to train. He doesn't quite understand it yet, but essentially when casting magic through the book, its power multiplies many times. It's written in a foreign language, yet for some reason Rinato can understand some of it, though is now looking for a scribe to discern the true nature and message within the text. After his grandfather's passing, Rinato settled into some of his old habits, amplified with age. Though never truly breaking any laws, he would party for nights on end, get drunk in the local tavern time and again, and cause heartbreak in the hearts of countless young women. His string of fuck-ups came to a crashing halt when he was accused of sexually assaulting a young girl, and basically disowned by Parpian. Despite having not done a thing to the young girl, the town believed as they did and eventually he simply couldn't stand it any more. A bottle of brandy later, and he'd left before the dawn, little more than a note of thanks to his parents and all the money they needed to pay for the food he just stole. Now, out into the big wide world, Ringo finds himself journeying towards the far-off city of Yinyella, City of Knowledge. It's his hope that he can find someone who is able to read the damn book and perhaps teach him more about its contents, although his journey may leave him... side-tracked. It's a long way, and the bestiary back home detailed some interesting creatures that could be found along the way. Buuuuut he'd deal with that when the time came. Equipment: - Steel Sword. - Cloth shirt and pants with leather boots and gloves. - A rucksack with food, clothes, a bedroll, and water, as well as a potion he managed to nick from the local alchemist. - The book with the fire insignia. - A journal which is kept in his rucksack, for recording anything noteworthy. Spells: - Wind magic, capable of knocking things back or pulling them close. - Fire magic. Nuff said. - Hypnotism: Also known as mind control. Ringo can sustain direct mind control for little more than thirty seconds, however indirect mind control by making subjects more obedient to him can last for several minutes at a time, sometimes lasting well beyond ten minutes. This depends on the will of the subject and their emotional state, as a calmer mind is easier to control than a distressed one. - Strengthening is the magic by which enhances Rinato's physical form, and gives him a bit more definition. It has a terrible effect of making Rinato really tired if he works too hard in that form, though, so he has to use it wisely. With it he's about as strong as a man twice his size.
