I'm putting in a piece how your character picked him up from a real low point in life and set him right again, gave him a job when others wouldn't. So even after his employment ends he still feels indebted to you.  
So yeah, he can be trusted.
Kinda like your own personal pitbull.

He's low on advice though but always eager to get his hands dirty. Just point him in a direction and reel him back before he goes to far ;)
