The problem people have with Shadowrun is that you put your D&D in with my 2020. 

And because of that, it's a gateway for people new to the genre. Just typical Internet elitism, nothing more.

Re: genre of Shadowrun, I'd argue the opposite- that it's cypunk with fantasy elements. What's it matter that the systemically persecuted are orcs and trolls instead of people of African and Asian descent? So what if it's a dragon as the head of some random Corp instead of an orange? 

The additional layer of fantasy elements allows the players to more comfortably engage with these issues.
