There are ways to help people without risking his life - He could scout ahead using his insects, help with wounds by using maggot therapy, dig into enemies and rip them apart from the inside, etc. But he would never take a hit for someone, let alone people he just met. If that's still not okay, would editing out the whole 'not risk his life for others' part be enough?
