The Adventure games WEREN'T quality games. They had quality levels. Noooo way. And Knuckles is horrid if you compare it to some of the fan games out there. The best part about it was the Hyper Emeralds and even then the game doesn't hold any better than most fan games. 4, Rush, Rush Adventure, Rivals, Rivals 2... They've already re-released the first X games twenty times for every system available, they don't need to rehash them again in Mania when they could be going forward. Literally the only excuse is that it seems to be plot-sensitive instead of just "oh we're going back here cause nostalgia!" There WERE distinct lines of canon until Generations fucked it up by trying to cross them, that's the point. The slowest gameplay have you PLAYED 2? The first three thousand hours are slow as fuck until you memorize speed run strats. They would be better off making a new Chronicles game than revisiting the first three games over and over. At least then the game worlds would expand some. WHY THE FUCK IS FORCES MELTING 2D INTO A 3D GAME AGAIN THERE IS NO EXCUSE THEY'VE ALREADY PLACATED THE PEOPLE ONLY INTERESTED IN SPEEDRUNNING MARIO WITH MANIA
The only terrible part of Adventure was the voice acting/modeling. I even love the overworld of Adventure 1. "Most" fan games is a stretch. There are a ton and only a few high quality ones. We may have to just chalk this up to opinion because S3&K is pretty beloved by many people (even disregarding nostalgia) whereas the fan games aren't to that extent. No, I agree, it's absolutely nostalgia. Mania is designed as a tribute game to reopen the world of 2D Genesis-Era Sonic. A Sonic Genesis Remix +, if you will. And according to reviews, the remixed levels is one of the only complaints about the game. I'm not disagreeing with you? Forces is retconning Generations anyway by making the games separate dimensions instead of separate timelines anyway. Have you played 2? Emerald Hill, Chemical Plant, Oil Ocean, Casino Night, Hilltop? Those are all fast stages right off the top of my head. You have stages like Metropolis and Aquatic Ruin that are a bit slower than the others and maybe Hilltop if you want to count that. They're all medium to high speed, though. Mystic Cave is pretty much the only "slow" stage in Sonic 2 unless you want the little segment where you ride on Tails' plane. I agree that it's probably not the best route going forward, but you're also downplaying the Genesis-era fanbase. It's a lot larger than you seem to think, and probably the majority of players.
