These were some random thoughts that came up to me when I heard about Charlosteville; In contemplating the causes which may disturb our union it occurs as a matter of serious concern that any ground should have been furnished for characterizing parties by geographical discriminations Northern and Southern, Atlantic and Western whence designing men may endeavor to excite a belief that there is a real difference of local interests and views. One of the expedients of party to acquire influence within particular districts is to misrepresent the opinions and aims of other districts. You cannot shield yourself too much against the jealousies and heartburnings which spring from these misrepresentations; they tend to render alien to each other those who ought to be bound together by fraternal affection. - Washington's Farewell Address Our detached and distant situation invites and enables us to pursue a different course. If we remain one people, under an efficient government, the period is not far off when we may defy material injury from external annoyance; when we may take such an attitude as will cause the neutrality we may at any time resolve upon to be scrupulously respected; when belligerent nations, under the impossibility of making acquisitions upon us, will not lightly hazard the giving us provocation, when we may choose peace or war, as our interest, guided by justice, shall counsel.-Washington's Farewell Address And then some of my own thoughts I wrote; This nation divides us. Instead of uniting under one alienable cause, we divide and fight among one another. No one is to blame, and we need to stop looking who to blame. We need to start accepting the beliefs and opinions of others. Maybe that's a little idealistic of me to believe that all this needless violence could have been stopped if the media and different organizations and groups stopped inciting people to blame for their problems. I am absolutely disgusted by the violence in this country. I am absolutely appalled and abhor the actions taken by these people. But I am disgusted that we could have stopped this if we remained One People. But we did not. Our nation is becoming an Us Against Them. And I fear for the consequences of this kind of dangerous mentality. Violence is not just a physical attack. It is one of the mind, one of the body, and the soul. I do not inherently believe in a soul per say, but I do believe violence shakes the very foundation of everyone's core beliefs. There is a rift beginning to form. A crack that I can see in the very foundation. It is either going to erupt in more violence and we cannot patch together. Or it is going to be healed because we came together. But I see a lot of hurt. A lot of frustration and anger beginning to boil. And I fear that people will take the only action they know how. When a regime doesn't hear the word of the people. The word of people becomes bloodshed.
