Of course, it would have been preferable if he immediately recognized her. But so many years had passed now. But still, Maddox could see through the foreign dress and mask and almost recognized her. If that was not proof that the two shared some bond, then he didn’t know what ever could be. Still, William was literally on the brink of introducing Amaryllis. As even his mouth stood open ready to form the name. But then the prince of Slibah butted his ugly head in. No, we haven’t met yet. But here I was, hoping to keep it like that. Those were his thoughts. Those thoughts of pure malice he wanted to utter. Not only was it a horrible time, William simply could not stand the mere, close presence of his counter-part. The two could not be more different. As William had to grow and fight on his own, this sorry excuse of a prince was given every single thing he desired. He lived with nobles and William had lived in the forests. Could he even shoot a deer? Probably not. He was probably too busy writing poetry or pretending to fight. From the depth of his heart, William wanted nothing more than to insult the prince and send him away to annoy someone else. The only one who saved the young Slibah from that fate was Amaryllis. As a fight between Maddox and William, which undoubtable would break lose, would ruin her chances to reconnect completely. So he kept quiet. But he did not return the bow. Instead he stared down Slibah's prince with fire in his eyes. That was the best he could do. In his rather self-absorbed hate, he failed to notice Amaryllis’ slight distress. In fact, as she talked, he thought she was holding up alright. With carefully chosen words, he thought, she was summoning up old memories. Maybe he was biased but he hoped his brother would realize the truth sooner rather than later. Now he should give the right example and give the two some privacy. “I must excuse myself." He began, only then realizing that he actually had no reason to leave the conversation without looking suspiciously unoccupied. His eyes darted left and right, trying to find a reason. Until he found one: a beautiful lady, dressed in purple. He turned to Maddox with a rather mischievous grin. “The Stewards have been harassing me for weeks now. So I guess I should go appease them.” With that, he left and went towards Keir. Even though he didn’t know who she was. But not before he threw daggers with his eyes at Prince Antoine. “Greetings, my lady.” He said as he made a small bow before Keir. “A interesting night, is it not?” he said, not particular paying much attention to her. In fact, the very words themselves didn’t sound sincere. They had William’s distinct sarcasm in it. To him, Keir was but a decoy. Best case scenario: nothing happens. The worst? Some gossips would form about him and some unknown woman. Which would get the stewards off his back at least for a little while. So instead of focusing on Keir, he was letting his eyes dart behind her, at Julianna.
