A storm had taken the sky in violent flashes of lightning and great sheets of rain but when Tom had set off on his way home he honesty hadn’t thought it would get this bad. It caught him off guard and he quickly found himself without cover and on slick ground as he leapt out of the way of a passing car. He lost his footing in the mud and slipped down the bank to the angry wind stirred river- and was caught among water weeds. He was unhurt so gradually he righted himself, trying to avoid taking an undesired swim. The rain had momentarily let up some and he looked for a way back up the slope but it was something else that caught his eye first as a flash of lightning arched across a sky. A reflection of its glow caught up in the weeds and he carefully moved closer to investigate. A stone- no a gem delicately shaped, had a chain wrapped among the reeds. A necklace? He hooked his finger around its chain and pulled it up, spinning it around so the charm dropped into his palm. Someone must have lost it- who knew how far the current may have carried it.
