This idea of the deities fighting to maintain control over a pantheon is absolutely great. It is actually partially inspiration for my own world I've been working on for years. You might consider that while the landscape is rather barren as a result that there is some other terrible side effects of this battle. For example, perhaps the setting is mainly a wasteland and water is in extremely short supply having been consumed as a means of exploiting magic. Or perhaps, something similar being sacrificed as a means to obtain victory. Other examples of things that may have been sacrified, Iron or other metals making armor less effective, shaping the way fighting styles arise and subsequently forcing the world to advance in a different manner. Maybe life forms are emaciated, their life force drained as a means to supplement the existence of deities as they struggled to fight on each forcing civilization to become vegetarian as eating most animals is difficult with very little meat to be harvested. These are things to consider. Anyone can build a world - but what sets the world apart is what will draw people to the attraction.
