A few thousand words shorter than I would like and not at all what was originally planned but it's here.
The sun shone overhead, bathing the beach in warm rays. Towels and umbrellas sprinkled the strip of white sand as people took advantage of the pleasant early summer day. Two of those happy beachgoers were a pair of Faunus. The owl wings on one and the otter tail on the other would give anyone familiar a clue as to their identity. If that wasn't enough on its own the unusual way the water acted around the latter had to be a dead giveaway. Beryl giggled as she sent a wave sweeping sideways along the beach towards Bianca. It was a small wave, only knee high. So it wasn't very hard for the other Beacon student to jump over it. A slight flap of her wings sent the girl over the unnatural lump of water. The two were in the shallows. Beryl up to her waist, Bianca at her knees. The water wielding otter girl would have preferred to be all the way in the water. Zipping about like a torpedo. But Bianca had waaaay too many feathers for that. So they compromised and stayed at the edge of the vast body of water. With a grin of her own the white haired girl pointed a finger at the water near Beryl. With an unseen flash of energy a dent appeared in the liquid, salt water spraying out and over the young Huntress. Beryl let out a cry of surprise and reflexively ducked under the surface. The spray splattered harmlessly against where she had been standing the moment before. She came back up with a distinct lack of sputtering. Sputtering was for people who weren't half water, half otter, half girl. With an evil grin her hands shot up from the turquoise surface. Two streams of water followed her hands and shot through the air at the winged girl several yards away. Now it was Bianca's turn to whoop in surprise. With a flap of her wings and a blast of semblance that sent water spraying away in every direction she shot up into the air above the streams. Hovering there she watched them splash back down before sending a challenging grin at Beryl. The girl in the water met the girl in the air's grin with one of her own. Several clear orbs rose up behind her and fired off at Bianca. The airborne Huntress started ducking and weaving around the liquid spheres as she repulsed a larger dent into the water below. Sunlight refracted through the the orbs and the sound of them splashing back into the water started drawing the attention of other beach goers. One group started hurriedly digging a pit that they promptly jumped into and stuck their umbrella overtop of. The wisdom of such a manuever showed itself soon after when an orb landed not in the water. And again when another was sent flying overhead by a blast of repulsion from the flying Bianca. The cries and laughs of the two girls could be heard across the beach as they continued their contest. Beryl sending orbs of water up at her playmate. Bianca dodging and sending them back down or causing spouts to erupt out of the ocean near her friend. Beryl might not be able to cure Bianca's problems but she could at least help her forget for a short time. All in all it was a good day
