To my knowledge, they always take on the race of their mother. They might inherit [i]some[/i] racial traits from their father, but overall, it's mostly their mother's race. For example, the Bretons are pretty much an entire race of crossbeeds (due to elven masters impregnating human slaves), but that happened over several generations of breeding, and even then they still look more human than elf.
