He is always thinking ahead and manipulating the battlefield like a tactician. His goals are to stop anyone from getting hurt (unless they’re the bad guys) and quickly deal with a problem before it escalates into a crisis. Swarm is willing to negotiate, always preferring the pacifistic route for the aggressive route never goes well for his enemies. He likes to make sure a plan is at least well-thought out and established before diving into a mission. Plans don’t always survive first contact, but it is always better to go in with one than without one and if any heroes he teams up with don’t have a plan, he will have one. Swarm has a backup plan for the backup plan for the backup plan. Civilian Personality: Roland is a little socially awkward. He spends majority of his day-to-day life in a laboratory and he chose his job as a renowned biochemist: 1) to avoid people, 2) to be around like-minded individuals, and 3) because his brilliant mind shouldn’t be wasted in this life. He can be a little arrogant when it comes to discussing certain matters of chemistry, and he has every right to be. He has a doctorate after all. Things that would normally interest normal people such as going to the movies, having dinner at a fancy restaurant (or fast food), taking long walks in the park…nope. While those things aren’t necessarily not interesting to Roland, he is just rather introverted. He would go do all of those things by himself and not feel lonely one bit. In fact, he does those things when he needs a break from his research to clear his mind. So basically, he is that friend you call up and ask if they want to go to dinner and they’ll either always say “No” or “I already ate.” Annoying; I know. When it comes to women and dating, Roland has already given up on it. Throughout his entire life, he was the nerd boy in school and no girl ever wanted her reputation sullied by dating the nerd boy. In college, some girls tried to date him just because they figured he would be rich when he got finished with his degree. He is always suspicious of gold diggers, and it is because of this suspicion that dating isn’t a successful endeavor. If a woman actually did like him for him, he would actually be shocked and wouldn’t really know what to do. This has never happened before!!! Roland doesn’t do well with sarcasm. If a person were to sarcastically refer to themselves as an idiot, he would believe them. What inspired him to go the super hero route was basically watching the news. Every day there seemed like some sort of crisis and some villain was causing some sort of disaster large and small around the world. So he thought, why not? He wanted to put his intelligence to good use by joining in the good fight.
Super Abilities
-Powers: N/A Skills:

Mixed Martial Arts: Since starting his career as a crime fighter, Roland enrolled in some 2 hour MMA classes. He’s currently at the beginner level.
Biochemist/Personal Laboratory: Roland has access to his own personal lab in S.T.A.R. Labs where he can work on whatever project he desires as long as he appeases his employers, which isn’t hard to do. He will always find some old hunk of junk gadget he worked on once upon a time to appease them during science fairs and company exhibitions. Stumped on a case? Can’t find an antidote? Roland can assist.
Genius-Level Intellect: Roland has not only dabbled in the biochemistry field but also the robotics and entomology fields, making him pretty versatile when it comes to studying different fields.
Gadgets:

Swarm Suit: Roland’s Swarm Suit is designed to mimic the appearance of a giant hornet. The carbon-fiber suit is light-weight and durable and supported by miniature pressure pistons, granting him the ability to run faster than the average human (45mph max). The suit comes with flexible insect-style wings made from a sturdy polymer and supported by rocket thrusters. His suit also comes with a helmet.
Swarm Helmet: The Swarm helmet allows Roland to see in infrared, electromagnetic spectrum for the detection of electronics, night vision, and day vision in the case of fluctuations in radiance. The visor’s interface is like a computer. Built-in cameras allow him to zoom in on targets 300 meters away and target enemies with his stinger missiles. The antennae on his helmet allow him to intercept radio waves, granting him the ability to eavesdrop on conversations made over radio transmission and phone (LAN and mobile). The helmet will always keep him informed of enemies who are approaching from either cardinal directions with an approximate reported distance. Roland can label whatever target he desires as an enemy for the computer to keep a bead on for as long as the enemy remains within his 300 meter vicinity.
Swarm Boots: Much like an actual insect, Roland can stick to walls. A special adhesive oozes between the treads of his boots, allowing him to effortlessly cling to vertical surfaces no matter how rough or smooth.
Cook Particles: Curiosity and extensive research and experimentation led Roland to discover unique particles that allow him to alter his size and mass. The particles could also shrink and grow inorganic matter. As fascinated as Roland was at first by his discovery, the nightmare of the technology falling into the wrong hands led to him keeping it a closely guarded secret. Roland commands his computer to release these particles when he plans to alter his size. As a colossus, which Roland calls his “Titan” form, his strength is phenomenal. His maximum height is 100-feet tall, which has yet to be tested for he hasn’t had a reason to grow so large yet. At 100 feet, Roland can lift over 100 tons. The smallest Roland could shrink is sub-microscopic, which is a pointless feat. He prefers to be between one to six-inches, and even as a tiny bug, with his mass shifted into his fists and feet, he can floor those enemies who are bigger than him.
Weapons:

Pheromone Shot: Swarm will fire a balled up and tied-off cloth that has been soaked in the pheromone of a giant hornet. It is the same pheromone hornets release when scouting out honey bee hives to alert other members of their swarm to their location. After firing this shot at an enemy, two hatches at the shoulders of Roland’s suit will pop open releasing four angry hornets who will chase the victim. Why just four? Well, one is dangerous enough. Any more than four would be overkill.
Sting Missiles: They aren’t technically missiles as they are needles. These projectile syringes are fired at enemies to inflict side effects such as sleep or paralysis. If Swarm has targeted an enemy before firing his missiles with his computer, then the missiles will home in on the enemy’s location.
Hornet Blades: They are two-feet long and will extend and retract from Roland’s forearms. These carbon blades are sturdy as well as sharp.
Shin Thorns: Roland’s shins are jagged, granting him the ability to deliver some nasty kicks.
Civilian Occupation: Biochemist for S.T.A.R. Labs
Biography
Character History/Origin: Roland was born and raised in Star City to Frank and Elizabeth Cook. Since he was a boy, Roland was always fascinated by science. His father, Frank, was a biochemist who worked for S.T.A.R. labs so it was no surprise that Roland would later follow in his footsteps. Roland was the kid who accidentally blew up the garage with a chemistry set…and a battery…and maybe some gasoline was involved…during his early years, he spent his life having his lunch money stolen, getting beaten up, and being made a slave to help the bullies with their homework (more like give them the answers to the test). His shameful past was what would eventually lead to him seeking redemption in crime fighting, but we have yet to get there. High school breezed by. No prom. No homecoming. He was president of the Science Club and over the summer he got to take some classes at UCLA. His brilliance eventually earned him a scholarship there, and it was while there that Roland spent the rest of his time studying biochemistry. During his junior year, his father helped him get his foot in the door with S.T.A.R. labs and his employers were impressed with his ingenuity. His future was set in stone, but he wasn’t ready to convert over to S.T.A.R. just yet. He went for his masters and then doctorate. When he finally became employed at S.T.A.R., the freedom the company granted him would become a curse. Relishing in his freedom, Roland began to dabble in areas of science not many scientists were capable of reaching or even had the privilege to do so. His dabbling led to him discovering an odd particle that initially shrank him down to the size of a mouse before he learned to revert himself back to normal. It was a lengthy process. In one instance, he grew so large that he could barely fit in the lab. He was lucky to have not burst through the entire building! When Roland learned to control the particles, he nearly in his excitement went running to his employers with his new discovery. Oh, the fame! The fortune! Wait…Roland had to collect his thoughts for he had a very dangerous device if it fell into the wrong hands. If people thought the H-bomb was the largest bomb...Roland was forced to reluctantly safeguard his particle research. As Roland continued his life with S.T.A.R. creating other projects, he always had the news on in his lab (he needed something to keep him in touch with the outside world). Every day it seemed like the news had more horrible things to report involving villains, destruction, disasters, etc. It got Roland thinking about his life. What was he doing to make the world a better place? Absolutely nothing. He was filling the pockets of the CEO of S.T.A.R. labs and none of his projects really contributed to saving lives or preserving humanity. Instead, it gave humanity a bigger reason to become even lazier. Good old curiosity and a desire to do something great for once was what inspired Roland to use his brain to design his new identity as Swarm.
