No one can point to the infamous party switch and there's more to suggest no such thing happened. Just saying it aloud should help indicate as to why that is unlikely.

So I was talking to my buddy last night about your claim and we both decided to make sure. And if you go on wikipedia and look at the U.S. presidential elections, start at like...idk, type up "u.s. presidential election 1940" and click that wiki page, and then go to the top right and see it saying "1944 election" and click that, and move forward so on and so forth. Eventually, other than Jimmy Carter who campaigned off of a 'southern gentlemen' and ran as democrat, you see a shift in red and blue states from north to south.
