To be fair, three or more other characters used the ECW without dying when they were weaker than Roshi currently is. And Goku only reacted right because he was reacting out of character for the whole tournament to raise the stakes. "Don't let your guard down" "I won't" "Holy fucking shit this is the twentieth time we've told you STOP LETTING YOUR GUARD DOWN EVERY TWO SECOND YOU SUPPOSED MASTER OF MARTIAL ARTS"
