However, he is also a bit of a smug, self-righteous prick in general, and moreso for having realised how backward Heaven tends to be, as if he himself has somehow transcended his own origins. Additionally, whilst he is a forward thinker, his thinking also tends to be somewhat narrow-minded - his path is almost always the right one, so to speak, and if that path fails, it was clearly somebody else's fault for not following it to a tee; thus, he cares not for other people's opinions of him, and he's become quite uncouth as a result. History: A quirk of harpy physiology means that as a result of sheer chance, male harpies are only born once every hundred years or so, and are innately gifted with greater power than many of their female contemporaries. Such was the case with Maceroy Falthon, and yet in his case specifically, he was further granted intelligence far beyond most other beings, let alone the average and often war-minded harpies. Far from it to be a blessing, though - his intellect even at a young age led him to try and follow a path of science over war, a poor choice when one lives among the most backward of the three factions. Suffice to say, his efforts were practically in vain. In four hundred or so years, he developed a lot of theoretical proofs of concept in both physical and metaphysical terms, but lacked anything resembling reasonable funding to extend his research, meaning his most successful outing was ultimately a weapon of war, a sort of drill-lance designed to try and counter the Machina's innate advantage over Heaven, and even then its success was questionable, not least for how heavy and unwieldy the prototype and subsequent revisions were forced to be. And of course, that was before his entire race was enslaved by Hell; and what poor timing, for he'd only recently laid with a harpy woman who had given birth to a child of his. Worse still, in the initial chaos, a masked entity that seemed to be some form of demon attacked him and his newborn daughter with the intent of consuming their essences, and very nearly succeeded for Maceroy's lack of training and difficult-to-wield weapon. His immortal soul was only saved from oblivion by the timely arrival of a scion of the Machina, who for reasons inexplicable warped him and his child elsewhere before they could be consumed. He always did wonder afterward at the entity's motivation for doing so, and secretly hoped they survived their subsequent encounter, though hated how easily they just moved him somewhere else and how readily the masked assailant had beaten him down beforehand. After that, Maceroy got lucky for a few years by remaining under the radar, but was ultimately captured and enslaved the same as most others of his race, begging his daughter to flee for her life during his last stand. In the time he spent under demonic boots, he saw exactly what he expected of demonic culture, i.e. its worst excesses. Death after death, injustice after injustice, all at the hands of his mortal foes, led him to hate demons far more than he ever had before... but even as he clutched at the strings of sanity, Maceroy saw how even these demons, chaotic and self-consuming as they were, had managed to progress further and faster than the beings of Heaven, and it struck him that perhaps he'd never had the opportunity to consider his other options... and he was still curious about the machine who had saved his life, after all. Finally, one of his kind freed his race from their slavery, and whilst most other harpies returned to their home in Heaven, Maceroy quietly snuck into the portion of reality reserved for the Machina, partially to determine exactly how the Machina handled technological advances, but also in an effort to seek out the entity that saved him three and a half decades before. Long story short, it didn't take him long to succeed in his goal, eventually coming across the being that called itself the Harvester. Almost surprisingly, it recalled who he was instantly, and through a brief period of negotiations, they came to an agreement: HR-513 would provide Maceroy with all the raw materials he needed to perform his research, but in exchange, Maceroy would provide the Harvester with the knowledge it so desperately craved. And so it was that Maceroy joined the Machina as a full-time member, though notably not as any particular form of combatant for most of that time. After all, he had so many advances to make, and not enough time to do them in. Powers: Harpy Physique - As a harpy, and a male harpy at that, Maceroy is naturally very physically capable, with strength, speed, and agility far greater than many others in the Nexus, alongside other typical celestial benefits such as immunity to hunger and mundane disease. In addition, his wings grant him flight capabilities, and the claws on his feet are sharp enough to act as weapons in their own right. That said, his would-be profession has often taken precedence over training his combat prowess, though a substantial amount of self-modification has begun to change that. Biomods - By drawing on and modifying his physiology, Maceroy has made a few improvements to his person based in his own biology rather than the Machina's technology, including some minor physical boosts, but largely focused around his wings; most notably, he has drastically mutated himself to bear a second pair on his back to improve his general flying abilities accordingly, and all four wings have been altered to possess very high durability and conductivity. Therefore, whilst they work very well as defensive barriers, they also act as both massive heatsinks and the easiest route for electricity to take out of his body, hence vastly reducing the impact of incendiary and electrical attacks against him regardless of impact location. He has also altered the claws on his feet, increasing their size and sharpness and letting them produce a sheath of disintegrative energy to help them cut through solid objects as necessary, and has even altered his teeth to switch between their usual state and a similar state to his claws, to let him bite through flesh and bone fairly readily. Intelligence - Practically key to Maceroy's current position is his blinding intellect. He is more than smart enough to consider most factors in any given situation, and certainly smart enough to develop incredible technology with the right resources, with which he has modified himself and created a great deal of weaponry and equipment. Flare - Speaking of blinding intellect, one of Maceroy's natural abilities is the power to make his entire body light up like an impossibly powerful supernatural floodlight. Doing so will eliminate all shadows in an area around him, even behind solid objects in range of the light, and make it extraordinarily difficult to see anything whilst near him, much less look directly at him even from a great distance - though this affects everyone in his vicinity, friend or foe. Weapons: Shock Lance - Technically more of a very long drill on a pole than a true lance, and a reconstructed holdover from his time in Heaven, the holy nature of this weapon and its significant weight means it is as capable of carving through armour as piercing it in spite of its somewhat ungainly nature - though if not for his artificial improvements, Maceroy would have a much harder time wielding it. Additionally, after Machina-derived modifications made to the design, the weapon now constantly builds up and stores a powerful electrical charge through both conversion of environmental energy and from the static it generates whilst active, which with the press of a button can be released into a target all at once, viciously shocking them, and often paralysing muscles and shorting out any electronics that the electrical charge can reach. Equipment: Nanomachines - Laced throughout his entire body, including musculature, organs, and skeleton, these are responsible for a lot of Maceroy's more physical improvements as of late, specifically boosts to most of his physical abilities - strength, speed, durability, and to some extent dexterity are all amplified, and these same nanites are more than capable of rapidly repairing damage to his body, negating harmful substances like poison or magically-induced illness, or even slightly modifying certain aspects of himself, though their efficiency wanes with more serious harm, and they can't make massive structural changes such as forcing the growth of a new limb. Perhaps more important are the mental improvements they grant, as by lacing those nanomachines through his brain, he has also greatly improved the speed at which he thinks and improved his resistance to mind-altering or otherwise harmful telepathic effects, helping him keep up with certain machines, and to keep ahead of the more common rabble. Reality Anchor - A small, yet interesting piece of technology that Maceroy has had in mind for a long time, but has only recently had the resources to create; he's created a small number of these items, though typically has just the one on his person at any time. Whilst active, the reality anchor locks itself on to whatever it has been placed upon with a set of sturdy claws, usually a living being, and forcibly ties their being to a single physical realm, rendering them unable to effect or be affected by any form of dimensional magic - they cannot teleport or be teleported; nor can they create any form of portal or even interact with portals, reacting with any spatial openings as if they were solid surfaces; nor can weaponry or equipment that affects the fabric of space-time function in their hands. Even attempting to phase them out of reality in any form will not work, such as attempts made to use shadows as transportation. Whilst it happens to be very useful against many foes to keep them from utilising their dimension-based powers, it is also extremely helpful for Maceroy to pre-emptively prevent such powers being utilised against him in kind, if he fears such a fate might befall him. Alert Button - Knowing that the Harvester can warp to any location that any of its material has previously existed, Maceroy has created this device to take advantage of this property. Not only is it composed of some of the Harvester's own mass to let it warp to Maceroy at any time, since nothing else of Maceroy's gear lets it do this already, but by pressing it, HR-513 immediately receives a sort of mental ping informing it that Maceroy would like its attention, and could it please warp to his vicinity as soon as possible, please and thank you. This is primarily useful for allowing Maceroy to relatively easily talk to the Harvester on a whim, though he naturally doesn't abuse its functionality for pithy smalltalk. They are both above that sort of thing, after all. Other: Maceroy's theme song:
