Nope, you don't. But, tossing them in some alleyway to save weight will probably get your tech-priest and quartermaster pretty upset.
Also bear in mind that a hive city isn't just endless tunnels. Vertical movement can be pretty critical.

Anyways, it's not like you're a band of adventurers expected to carry all of your kit at all times. If you're being deployed on a short combat patrol, your platoon leader isn't going to make you bring your toothbrush and spare boxer shorts from base when all you really need is your combat load.
