The issue of being too good at tanking comes down to that last one (I went and looked the scene up). A normal Dragon Slave can blow up a town and is [i]the[/i] strongest black magic before Ragna Blade or Giga Slave come into it. This was a Dragon Slave amplified by the Lord of Nightmares, cast at point blank into his body, whilst he was being stabbed and had no chance to defend himself. Yet afterwards, was he actually significantly hurt in any way? Not... really, he could still fly and everything.

If you aren't even KO'ed by the third strongest spell in the setting being amplified and fired inside you, there's not much anybody can do to so much as inconvenience you. AKA: Valgarv may as well have "indestructible" in his character sheet as everything is at most a nuisance.
