Name: Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden Age: 38 Gender: Male Appearance Dresden is a very tall man, towering over most. He has dark, ragged hair and dark eyes with sharp cheek bones and scars lining his, usually unshaven, face. He is built lean, but sturdy, he has a surprising amount of muscle on him, and his body, too, is lined with scars of nearly every description. His right hand is an ugly mess of half-healed burn scar tissue, hidded under a glove. Overall, he looks like a man who should be on a wanted poster. It doesn't help that he goes around wearing a big, black leather duster even on hot days. He also is always wearing a battered silver pentacle neckless that has a ruby, cut to fit, set in the center. He carries a large wood staff, carved with layers and layers of mystical, magical symbols. On his left arm is a bracelet of tiny shields made of copper. Personality: The best description of Harry came from his half brother, "He is Gandalf on crack with an IV of red bull." Harry tries to be good guy, he runs himself ragged and draggs himself through terrible situations, trying to raise his own little torch of good. He became a private investigator to help people who needed helping. He also has a chivalric code he can't stand seeing a woman or child in distress, and may make questionable judgment calls involving women. But, Harry is also stubborn as hell, which can both keep him going against impossible odds and makes him unable to give up on some things. He's got a sharp wit and is fond of being very irreverent. He is known for his mouth and making wiseass remakes to nearly everybody. He has an anti-authoritarian streak, and he hates bullies. He's considered a bit of a loose cannon by much of the magical community. He is the guy who you don't want showing up on your doorstep and leaves burning buldings and mounds of corpses behind him, but when you are in trouble, if you need help, there is no one better to have your back. Many look at him, and see him as a thug; all brawn and no brain. They couldn't be further from the truth. He is smart, creative, and unexpectedly clever, having had to rely on his wits to survive. He is no cowered, but he is not afraid to run away when he needs to. He is quite aware there are bigger kids on the block then him, but if he feels like he needs to, he will spit in the eyes of gods, demons, and abominations. This has earned him a fair number of enemies, friends, and people who just happen to not want to kill him. Brief History: Harry Dresden was born on Halloween, to Margaret LeFay and Malcolm Dresden. His mother died in childbirth, so Malcolm took care of him while travelling across the country trying to make a career as a stage magician. When Harry was six, Malcolm died of a brain aneurysm. Harry, orphaned, became a ward of the state. He was adopted by a wizard who trained him in magic but to eventually turn him into a thrall under his control. He then tried to kill Harry. Through luck and many other factors, not only did he not die, he killed his adopted father instead. Years later, he was found by the White Council, a group of ruling wizards, who tried him for breaking one of their laws of magic, thou shall not kill with magic. It was eventually rulled as self defense, and he was put under "the Doom of Damocles" basically if he messed up again, he would be killed, and we apprenticed to a wizard named Ebenezer. Much later he became a private investigator. He advertised as a Wizard, you can even find him in the Yellow Pages, and that lead to a chain of events that changed his life and rocked his world. During his investigations, he has dealt with a number of situations, ranging from the bizarre, to the downright apocalyptic. He has fought crazy sorcerers, demons, necromancers, faeries, nature spirits, FBI werewolves, and vampires of various kinds, the blood-sucking Red Court (which he personally all but destroyed), the sex-feeding White Court, and the undead Black Court, straight out of Stoker's novels. He had fought demigods, fallen angels, gods, eldrich things that should remain nameless, crime lords, and politicians. Though all of this, he has more or less survived, if not outright won. Universe of Origin: (The Dresden Files) Dresdenverse Equipment: Staff — A long wooden staff used for channeling magic. Also works well as a bludgeoning weapon. This version of his staff has been inscribed with an enchantment that stores a little kinetic energy every time it moves. While the staff can only cast the spell once, it has the energy storage sigil carved into it 77 times. Enchanted duster — One of his signature pieces of gear, a long leather inverness duster enchanted to work as armor against various attacks. Blasting rod — A rod used for channeling fire spells, works as a focus. Shield bracelet — A bracelet with tiny copper medieval shield charms on it. Used for creating force fields. Energy-storing rings — Rings which are enchanted to store a small fraction of kinetic energy into them at all times. He wears rings made of silver for each of his fingers. They are three bands stacked on top of each other, with each band capable of holding enough energy to knock a car on it's side. Silver pentacle pendant — A pendant Harry inherited from his mother. Used for various spells, including tracking Thomas's identical pendant[15] and as a focus for calling up wizardly light. Once used to kill a loup-garou.[16] Margaret LeFay's jewel — Also, in Changes, Harry gained a red jewel that he has joined to the center of the pentacle. This jewel contains Harry’s mother, Margaret LeFay's vast knowledge of the Ways of the Nevernever, a dimension side-by-side with the normal one, easily accessed but incredibly dangerous. With this knowledge he could conceivably cross the world in a few steps...or come face to face with some elderich tenticaled monstrosity that rips one sanity apart just by looking at it. Smith and Weston .500 revolver and a Winchester .45 rifle - for when a lump of lead traveling at the speed of sound can solve problems just a neatly as magic. Abilities: Harry is a young, but powerful wizard. He has been in more then his fair share of scrapes before so has developed quickly via trial by fire. His specalty is combat ritual magic, but he is a fair hand at quick and dirty kaboom magic. He has an innate affinity with fire and force, and with the winter knight's mantle, ice and cold. But he is also adept with wind, lighting, and gravity. His illusion skills are passable, he used to be horrible at them, but several years training an apprentice who's talents ran that way honed his skills. Because of some darker parts of his past, he is more than intimately familiar with necromancy and ectomancy magic. Along with ritual magic comes a particular brand of magic called thaumagicary, which involves linking effecting, and manipulating something using a representation that is similar in some way. This magic has come in handy much and he can be deviously creative with it. Other magics he knows are wards, enchantments, portals to the Nevernever, weak earth magic, magnetism, various simple charms, potions (with help), dispelling magic and sleep magic. Winter Knight's Mantle - It is a position of incredible power, giving Harry access to the abilities of the Winter Sidhe (fairies but not the nice kind). This gives him substantially increased stamina, speed, and strength in both the physical and magical sense, improved ability with ice magic, and gives him greater protection from physical attacks. On the down side, when he draws from his, the more it stokes his darker urges, hate, lust, violence ect. It can be temporary disabled if large amounts of iron pierce his skin; small amounts mearly hinder it. With it, he is immune to cold, won't slip on icy surfaces, can manifest icy claws from his hands, and when fully drawing on the Knight's power, displays the strength to jump fifty feet through the air and bench-press almost nine hundred pounds, coupled with incredible endurance and the ability to ignore pain and heal more quickly then a normal man. The power of the Winter Knight is also incredibly savage, even predatory, and Harry has to constantly be on guard against its influences Finally, the mantle has raised his threshold to pain; he has several wounds stitched up without any anesthesia, remarking that he was aware of the sensation and it was not pleasant, but it did not hurt. This last is almost as much curse as boon, as he can become critically injured and not even realize it is happening. He recently found that the mantle lets him train faster and better then any normal human, and this training has made him naturally as strong and agile as a top athlete. A power that all true wizards have is The Sight, or the Third Eye. Using this power is one of the earmarks of wizardry. It allows a wizard to see the world as it truly is, on a magical and spiritual level, bypassing all veils and illusions and showing people and things as they truly are. Anything that is witnessed under the Third Eye is remembered perfectly, forever, which leads to reluctance to employ it, as it is often called on in situations to reveal evil, horrible supernatural harm, and the like, and the weight of such memories can cause significant mental stress over time. Harry once glimsed a thing so anathema it nearly drove him mad. Yet another power that all wizards have is the soulgaze, a meeting of the eyes that transforms into a highly personalized and revealing look at the other person's psyche and soul, and one of the reasons why people instinctively don't look deep into another's eyes. It is an immediate way to identify someone or something. Just like The Sight, these memories never fade. Magic itself has an innate power to disrupt technology in the Dresden Files. A strong wizard's aura interferes with devices such as computers, airplane engines, and car motors, severely limiting his use of any modern/electronic gadgets. He can deliberately cause widespread havoc around high-tech items just by drawing in his magic, a practice he refers to as "hexing." On a more mundane level, wizards like Harry are also capable of slowly 'healing perfectly' from injuries, leaving no scars or breaks. For example, broken bones will seal and leave no mark behind, and he is slowly regaining use of his flame-seared left hand, damaged so severely the normal doctors recommended it be amputated. This characteristic is tied to the exceptionally long lifespan of wizards. However this is no x-factor healing, it requires coomptious amounts of time, and treatment like any normal human. After a complicated series of events, a literaral Archangel awarded Harry the Angelic power of soulfire, which is used to make a sort of magical framework for the magic being used, turning, for instance, a straight force attack into an enduring silvery construct hand able to bash and batter repeatedly. The portion of the soul used in the soulfire returns over a period of days, enabling the wielder to get back to full strength; using all of one's soul is still fatal, however. Soulfire excels when used in creation magic, a notable example of which is illusions. Harry's 'final' ability, also possessed by all wizards is that of the death curse. It draws all their magic with their life force into a spell, casting one is immediately fatal. While it is typically targeted at the being that kills them, it may be employed upon anyone within line of sight. A death curse from wizard of Harry's level could level several city blocks-- more if Soulfire enhanced, but he consequences of using Soulfire are disturbing and unknown. Note, however, it does not have to be a destructive spell. Harry has a fairly uncommon magical power he has developed with time and experience, the ability to Listen. This is more akin to a clairaudience effect of limited range then merely enhanced hearing, but the sensitivity of it has risen with time, to the point where Harry can even filter out and discern different heartbeats around corners and in rooms close by. Although it can be blocked, it provides an excellent tactical edge against many opponents for him. Harry is no slouch at mind magic and mental assalt, described as being incredibly obdurate on defense, and blundering tough on offense. Other: He owns two spirits of intellect who reside inside a specally prepared skull. One spirit is names Bob and the other does not have one yet. Bob is centuries old and very powerful, but beholden to Dresden and farly frail. He has an ecylopedic knowledge of magic, and an obsession with sex. He owns (or maybe they own him) a dog and a cat. The cat is a fifty-pound tom named Mister who is currently staying with a friend. The dog is a massive nth pound "Foo dog" who has human level intelligence and is incredibly stong, durable, magical and dangerous. Currently staying with his daughter, playing guard dog (and is occasionally pony). He has a daughter named Margret Angelica Dresden. He have a half brother, a incubus named Thomas (its a long story) He is a member and Warden of the White Council, a group of wizards who police wizard. The wardens are the equivalent of their men at arms. (Although they probably think he is dead as he did die once.) (It didn't stick) He is also The Warden of an Island called Demonreach, an inescapable sentiant magical prison of all kinds of extremely powerful supernatural nasties that are mostly insane and very very evil. It has quite a bit of power, but it is all self contained. Off the island it has no power.
