You do realize that the Eternal Empire and the Galactic Empire are two different empires right? I mean, what's happening within the SWTOR game is basically an AU thanks to Disney, which likely ruined any canon connections Bioware could have made to the main series.
I thought the same on that. Also it really doesn't even matter if they pick the same faction of the same universe in the same timeline as long as their leaders(on the array) are different, because they are now entirely a different entity in themselves. I assume the point of the 'Universe of Origin' part is more for other people to get a baseline of the content we are making our faction from. Since we are allowed to make are own changes in a fictional universe that harbors a bunch of different fiction universes so it could suit the rp. For example my Tyranid Dominatrix being sentient and making Her own decisions because the Array stopped the Hive Mind from controlling her. All the Tyranids regardless if they are synapse creatures would turn feral since having synapse is just a extension of the Hive mind. So I did my own take on what would happen if a Major Command synapse nid would lose the voice.
