He had just seen the man tidying up one of the displays, and with the tired looking clerks in the kid section, he imagined he was just another employee. But with the stern scolding Royus gave without even having to get up and head on over, it seemed to Fitz that Royus was most likely in charge of this entire place. In hindsight, it made sense that way--an old man wouldn't need a job at a toy store. They'd be successful and retired by then. Or at least, that was what Fitz had been raised to believe. Of course, he also had a brief image of Royus pulling out a gun and shooting anyone who tried to steal from him. The man had tons of experience--Fitz just wasn't sure quite what with. Guns seemed to be a favorite hobby out in the Border Planets. Maybe Royus used to be a crackshot, feared in all of the Border Planets...But at the same time, it was still hard not to see him as a kindly old man who enjoyed chess. Fitz made his next move. He was too socially shy and intimidated to try to back Royus up--not now, at least. His stutter would probably only undermine Royus' authority.
