"So this is the new world huh?"
Name Malkai Vorinclex Race / Age Half-Orc Personality Fairly jovial but with a touch of barbarism as well. Malkai is a simple creature: he does what he wants, which can be anything from ultra violence to playing the hero. Generally looks out for himself but has no issues lending aid to a friend or pretty face either. That being said his morals are about as flexible as a whip, and as changing as the seasons. Malkai will always be Malkai, even if people think of him differently. Backstory If one asked Malkai who he was and what he’s doing here, he’d tell you flat out that he’s an extra dimensional traveler who accidentally found himself in this world and is slowly working back towards returning to his realm. Whether or not he’s lying or telling the truth, he wouldn’t bother to explain, as he isn’t really trying hard to get back home. Whatever his origins is Malkai has showed a variety of skills he has dabbled in, the best of them being his combat prowess. In his own words, “If I was a good tradesman I wouldn’t be risking my ass doing this.” As for how he came into the company of the Virtuous Company, they were simply the first company who he came across and accepted him. Being a foreigner with a loose grasp of the language, the only language he could speak is violence, which the Company was well versed in. He’s been with them for a while, enough to get a hang of the language, but is still very much a stranger in these strange lands. But as long as the money is good, and there’s work to be done, Malkai seems fairly content for himself. Physical Talents Malkai’s favored weapon is the axe and it’s variances. Light enough to throw, heavy enough to split helms, and anything in between, chances are Malkai can used them well. Malkai especially likes pitting his blade against swordsmen, who generally deride his weapon of choice as barbaric and lacking in true skill. But those same swordsmen will find that Malkai is quite capable against their kind of weapons, specifically sundering their blades or simply disarming them with the crook of his axes. Malkai is also a decent brawler should he not have a weapon on hand. He’s no martial artist, but at the same time he knows how to escape a grapple, take a punch, and even foil some fancier attacks with simple brutality. He’ll elbow smash kicks and bite though fingers, and then use those same teeth to rip out your jugular or tear off your hamstrings if the fight isn’t a friendly one. He’s more of a beast than a man when it comes to hand-to-hand, yet he’s still very much a thinking creature as well. Malkai’s striking arts aren’t anything to write home about, however his strong grip and constitution allows him to be a deadly grapple once he gets close. Arguably the best thing about Malkai is his toughness and durability. Be it blades and arrows, fire and ice, or whatever arcane trickery the enemy makes, Malkai has the toughness to survive. Augmenting his own natural armor, Malkai dons protective plates and even employs the use of a shield to increase his survivability. When it comes to a shield Malkai is just as good at them as he is with an axe, and often uses the protective plate as a smashing board as well. His ability to move in armor, even heavier full plate, is also certainly something to note as he’s far more agile than any man ought to be. Another talent Malkai has is being able to play a few instruments, such as a lute, flute, and drum. He’s not exactly the best with them, but he can play backup for more talented musicians. He’s a horrible singer however so unless his wretched voice can harm the enemy, best let him just play his instruments. The last, lesser known physical talent for Malkai is one her purposes keeps secretive for what it is: His stealth. Though a loud man in personality and in battle Malkai is just as capable of sneaking around to a more optimal position or escaping a bad one. Being able to move as quietly and quickly as he can, despite his armament, is a talent he’s honed over the years in order to bring the biggest boom to where it’ll make the loudest noise. Magical Talents
Grease - This spell creates a small amount of volatile slime, about half a gallon. The grease can be summoned over an area or directly onto a target. The grease is very slippery and will make it difficult to hold onto objects covered in the grease or maintain footing where there is grease. This grease is also highly flammable, and when exposed to a high enough level of heat (Such as from a torch), the grease will light on fire. Good for getting wet wood to catch on fire. Spark - With a snap of Malkai’s fingers he can create a flame as big as a candle for a second. Too weak to be used against enemies directly, however it can be used to light highly flammable things instantly such as oils, clothes, or campfires. He typically uses this spell to light his cigars.

War Cry - Malkai unleashes a deafening roar that fills his allies with fury. War Cry allows Malkai and his allies to become physically stronger and increases their stamina for a minute, however those who accept the War Cry cannot cast spells or concentrate on maintaining spells. This song can also overwrite other emotion or mind based effects such as fear and mind control, at least for as long as the person accepts the War Cry.
Equipment
Trick Axe - This hefty looking battleaxe is Malkai’s preferred weapon of choice. On the surface it doesn’t look like much aside from a rather broad-headed weapon, too heavy for most aside from Malkai to hold with just one hand. The secret to it however, is that the shaft can be extended to turn the battleaxe into a poleaxe, increasing its reach at a moment’s notice. Cestus - A single armored gauntlet made of tough leather and metal studs. The palm and fingers are open enough that Malkai can still hold and operate other weapons even with the hand wearing the cestus, allowing him to always have a melee option whether he has a weapon in hand or not.

Breastplate - Malkai wears a steel breastplate as his main form of body armor. With a sloped chestpiece, pauldrons, and tasset, it keeps most of Malkai’s squishy bits protected. Orcish Helmet - A traditional orcish helmet made of steel, but also made with surprising orcish ingenuity. Designed to be able to ward off glancing blows to the head and neck, it is also equipped with a fearsome battle mask that serves a more functional purpose than intimidation: the eyes of the mask is covered with a glass lens that dims the effect of bright light, such as from the fires or the sun, and is meant to be worn by orcs capable of darkvsion. The glass lens also provides protection against those who would try to blind Malkai by throwing dirt or other objects in his face, though it’s not the best form of protection if anyone tries to stab a sword through his eye. Studded Leather - What the breastplate doesn’t protect, Malkai wears studded leather to cover. His legs and arms and covered with a leather hide with metal rivets to help deflect blows. Shield Gauntlet - A metal gauntlet Malkai wears specifically on his shield arm (The left hand), it helps him maintain his grip on his shield as well as provide more protection than a regular leather gauntlet would have. Smashing Shield - As much a weapon as it is armor, Malkai rarely ever fights without his smashing shield. A medium sized shield capable of not only blocking, but also parrying, disarming, and of course smashing into the enemy. Malkai’s shield is also designed in such a way that he can steady his other weapons on it, such as guns or spears.

Backpack - A leather carrying case that has numerous pockets for storing items that might be needed while adventuring. Hooks are included for attaching items such as canteens, pouches, or even a rolled-up blanket. It has padded bands that strap across the chest and the waist to distribute its weight more evenly. It can hold about 2 cubic feet of material in its main container. Bedroll - Two woolen sheets sewn together along the bottom and one side to create a bag for sleeping in. In a pinch it can also be used to choke out a fire at the risk of ruining the bedroll in the process. Blanket - A thick furred blanket that can also be used as a sack, towel, rug, or pillow. Typically rolled up along with the bedroll. Rope - Lengths of rope that Malkai keeps in case stuff needs to be tied down. He carries five lengths of ten-feet rope tightly wound together. Small Leather Tent - A canvas tent with collapsible poles just barely large enough to hold two-medium sized people. The canvas can also be fashioned into a hammock, or if needed the tent could be suspended by a rope as a hanging tent if there is no flat or dry areas. When used in such a fashion, it’s typically only big enough to hold one person comfortably. Waterskin - A flexible flask made of a bear stomach and sealed with a cork, can hold up to half a gallon of liquid. Fishing Tackle - A small box containing a set of hooks, lures, floaties, wires, a small net, and a even a fishing rod (Assembly required). Bait needs to be procured locally. Bandoliers - Two pairs of belts worn over the chest and across the waist, they come with a variety of straps and pouches to hold weapons and other objects, such as potions or bombs. Malkai also has a special bag on his belt that specifically resistant to both high impact and heat, to ensure that his potions don’t break. Climbing Kit - A container with crampons, pitons, strong rope, and even chalk that can help Malkai and others climb treacherous surfaces. Cooking Kit - This kit contains an iron pot, an iron skillet, a ladle, a skewer, a wooden cutting board, a cutting knife, an iron tripod for the pot, a packet of tinder, and a small selection of local or otherwise easy to find seasonings. All the component pieces (except the skillet) fit within the pot for easy storage and transport. Meal Kit - This kit includes a plate, bowl, cup, fork, knife, and spoon, made of bronze. Each item has a handle or small hole and can be tied together using the included leather cord. Traveler’s Anytool - A magic iron rod with various knobs attached to it. This item is capable of transforming into any tool to the creator’s imagination, so long as the tool itself does not consist of too many moving parts. For example it can create a pair of shears or a twenty-foot pole, but not a threshing flail or padlock. And while this item can create tools such as hammers, axes, picks, and even machetes, they are not inherently designed as weapons and generally are inferior to their more martial variants, though they do just fine for more mundane purposes. Flute - A bronze flute Malkai sometimes plays when he's bored. It can also be loud enough to send noise over a long distance, should he need to communicate via flute. His name is etched on the bottom.

Healing Potion (x2) - A potion that can restore damage from light wounds. It can also be used to stabilize someone who is dying but not yet dead. Antitoxin (x2) - A bitter yellow liquid that helps resist poisons and suppresses their effects for 24 hours. Antitoxins are not antidotes and do not remove poison on their own, only suppress their effects until the antitoxin wears off. If the poison isn’t purged from the system one way or another, either naturally or by being cured, the effects will resume. Love Potion - A mind-altering potion that causes the person who drinks it to fall in love with the first person they see, regardless of their gender, race, or age. The magic compulsion wears off after an hour. Halfling Smokeweed (x5) - A mind-affecting narcotic that induces sluggishness yet also increases certain senses, Malkai keeps rolled up cigars filled with this stuff to calm his nerves. Can be used to suppress fear effects and pain, however the subsequent side effects will cause you to become drowsy, sluggish, uncoordinated, and prone to maniacal laughter. Trail Rations (x5) - Metal tins, lunch boxes, or small sacks containing enough food to feed Malkai for a day. They come in different varieties depending on where he got them from, but they're generally quite preservable and could be eaten even weeks after they've been made. Malkai's trail rations tend to be very spicy.
Other Malkai has an innate darkvision good for about sixty feet. Within sixty feet he can perceive things as if he was looking at them under daylight, except in monochrome. Malkai is fluent in Halfling and knows enough Elvish to understand when he’s being insulted. Malkai has unintentionally co-authored a cookbook about poultry. He has yet to collect any royalties on the sales. Knows how to make bread. Fears Liches. Not just undead, but specifically liches. Powerful, magically charged undead once put Malkai in a very horrible position, and he only escaped due to the apathy of the lich and blind luck. Since then Malkai simply prefers to cut and run rather than stay and fight. Malkai is also not a fan of the ocean or any large bodies of water for that matter. Rivers and swamps he’s fine with, and if he has to Malkai can cross a lake as long as he stays inside the boat, but he refuses to have anything to do with the sea or anything underwater. Because of this Malkai can’t swim, at least not very well. Certainly isn’t going to be a good swimming when he’s panicking. Gnomes creep Malkai out. Not really a big fear on it’s own, but something about them unnerves Malkai greatly. Doesn’t help that the lich who once kept him prisoner was also a gnome in his past life. Malkai didn’t realize gnomes could be liches. Wood Elves also make Malkai uncomfortable. While he usually has no problems with other variances of elves, wood elves remind him much of gnomes while still having the innate savagery of nature, even if the wood elf in question is more of a hippie. They’re just creepy. Malkai also doesn’t handle angels very well. Churches he’s fine with, and generally he doesn’t have any beef with priests or gods, but most of what people consider angels, Malkai just considers glorified executioners with good public relations. It doesn’t help that when he was finally freed from the lich, it was angels who nearly killed him, not the lich himself. Much like liches Malkai prefers to avoid angels rather than deal with them, benign or not.
