Before I answer your question welcome to the RP and welcome aboard please don't be afraid to ask me questions about the RP. And if you though of something good for the RP please don't be afraid to tell me and we could talk about it, and if I liked it, I will cite you when I use it for the RP. 

Now for the answer. The year would be 2017 but, the Rp would start off at the end of 2017. Specifically Sunday; December 31 2017. So if you following technology that's supposed to pop up before the date, then that's fine by me. But, if the Weapon itself would deem too OP like the MOAB or the mother of all bombs then I wish you consul me first. 

I won't ban the weapon itself, so don't be afraid to share to me what you find. It could be a really good side mission for the RP, cause it wouldn't be exciting if you have that in the beginning, mankind at this time needs everything that they could get to retake earth but, that doesn't mean I would get them access to that technology instantaneously instead, I'm gonna make them work for it cause I believe that's better and more fun.
