[@Burning Kitty]As Kiva Riece rounded the corner, hoping to introduce himself as a trader that could help the new ship sell their supplies, he ran into several Federation security officers which promptly pointed phasers at him. "I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that this area was off limits" he said, walking backwards, only to have two more officers block the corridor behind him. "There must be some misunderstanding. I am merely a trader who came here to offer his services and knowledge of local markets to the ship which just docked here." One of the Federation officers checked his tricorder. "Anomalous energy signature." he said. "It's the necklace." "What, this?" Captain Kiva said, motioning towards it. "It is a personal shield generator I purchased from an Orion trader. Space is a dangerous place, you can never be too careful when flying." "Then why does it look Bajoran?" "I modified the casing." he responded. "Didn't alter how it works, but looks a lot nicer. The old aesthetic was horrible, and as I prefer dealing in valuables, aesthetics are very important." The officer looked over the readings again. It COULD be a personal shield generator, but the device was far more complex, drew too much power, especially for being inactive, and had a lot of processing power. [hr] The Yangtzee Kiang's sensors registered an explosion shortly after picking up a Bajoran transmission which quoted the Book of Origin. "It's starting," said Kira. "Origin is trying to run the blockade already. They can't keep this tactic up for long, though. I doubt they have more than a few hundred ships. I wonder what the point was." A few minutes later, as the Yangtzee Kiang entered orbit and hailed Captain Yates, they got an answer as a broadcast left Bajor, showing Starfleet officers attacking a Bajoran ship, boarding it, then beaming off just seconds before it exploded. The message which accompanied the video stated that they were now facing persecution, that the Federation, in league with corrupt members of the Bajoran government, had attacked a peaceful ship full of missionaries and destroyed it simply to prevent them from spreading their religious beliefs. News agencies on Bajor quickly hailed various people in Starfleet to verify these allegations. [@mattmanganon] Carter and Zelenka followed the Captain to the reactor room, returning greetings in a friendly, but not too friendly manner. When they got there and saw the drive, they weren't sure what they were looking at. Sure, it functioned similar to a hyperdrive, but it was constructed along different principles. "Honestly, we've worked with something similar, but whoever designed this was thinking along different lines than the person who designed our hyperdrives." Carter pulled out an ancient scanner and ran a few scans. "I can identify several leaks in the structure, though. Microscopic cracks that are leaking gamma and exotic radiation. They were probably caused by the strain of coming to this universe. Radek, can you start patching the cracks while I figure out how to connect to their computer and download a schematic? I need to figure out exactly how it's supposed to work before I can get it working again." "Don't worry, Captain, from what I can tell the drive is just producing too much gamma to create a proper hyperspace window and would destabilize it if it tried. It wouldn't take more than a few hours to fix on the Odyssey, so it shouldn't be that hard to fix here."
