Though Riley did not exactly answer her question, what he had to say still held Izzy’s attention. She nodded in understanding as he stood. “Along with the weight of it… only in a more literal sense.” She returned her arms to her sides and placed her thumbs in the pockets of her jeans. When Riley finished, Izzy frowned and opened her mouth to object, to say that that first change could be only the beginning, but Holden beat her to it. She returned Holden’s gaze. “I’m just glad it worked out,” she said as he stepped to her. She looked at him with mild surprise when he took one of her hands. There was that concept again. The number of friends she kept finding in unexpected places only continued to grow. It would never cease to amaze her. “You don’t need to apologize. I understand.” She smiled warmly.
