[B][U]History:[/U][/B] Hailing from a little known clan with little in the way of affiliation or alliances, Kazayatsu was one of several children raised by the entire clan as was their custom. Though the Great War raged on during his youth he was largely ignorant to it despite the training he and his relatives endured in their youth. It was not until the age of 10, when he had distinguished himself from his peers, that the war truly became real to him. A raid came upon their compound in the night and, despite his training, he could do little against the adult shinobi. Nonetheless there were few casualties, for mostly supplies had been taken. Sadly, Kazayatsu was not a boy with good luck, so he was one of those few who lost someone that day. With no time for a funeral for the dead, the clan picked up camp, in hopes of finding somewhere more secluded where the war would touch them less. In the wake of this, Kazayatsu had little time to grieve his mother. Thrown into an even harsher training regimen, Kazayatsu and the entirety of the youth population were turned into child weapons, and though the clan wished to flee the terrible conflicts of war, they were indeed used as such. Raiders, battlefields, bandits, and passing armies terrorized their clan, but they stood steadfast and kept on, with Kazayatsu, the adults, and the other kids defending them as they moved. It was hell, seeing his friends and those he looked up to falling like flies around him, even with the strange morals that his clan taught it just...seemed terrible. Still, while the everyday grind was one thing, the Battle of Black Forest was another. Passing through the territory of the Land of Fire their troupe was ambushed in a forest by a group of mercenaries looking for supplies, soldiers, and women. Taken off guard, the clan was hardly prepared for the strike and many fell even in the initial struggle. Many died that night, and many more would as the sun rose above the trees. With shinobi left and right, killing and attempting to capture those he loved, something snapped in Kazayatsu and it was like a door opened to Hell itself. Cornered by a group of eight shinobi in a thick copse away from the rest of the fighting, what the adults saw as a thirteen year old child became a demon, fire and ash rolling off his form to consume everything. The shinobi, having one water release shinobi, lasted longer than most might, but Kazayatsu's newly awakened Kekkei Genkai, and rage won out. He left that copse burning, and the forest burned with it. Wherever he went, their enemies died and while he perhaps saved his clan, they did not respect him for it, they feared him. Treated as a pariah from that point onwards, Kazayatsu was chained up, seals placed on his body to prevent his use of chakra. Whenever fighting needed doing he was released on their enemies. The number of people he killed piling up as the months swept by. People stopped calling him his name and started calling him Kuroyaju: The Black Beast. This continued until his clan found a secluded, defensible position, where they still live to this day. Of course, while the fighting stopped soon after that, the Great War coming to a close, his strife did not, for the clan no long had any use for him and so cast him from their ranks. Wandering for many days and scrounging up whatever food he could, Kazayatsu eventually made it to a small village in the Land of Stone, beaten, half out of his mind, and starving. He passed out at the edge of the village. When he woke up a day later he did so in a small cottage in town where Sukui, an old widow, had taken him in. Sukui took care of him, nursing him back to health, treating him like her own child. He grew to care about her, and she about him. Things were good for a time, what with peace having fallen over the lands, and with him no longer fighting for his clan's survival. Still, as he grew up, dealing with the traumas of war, abandonment, and being treated like a monster rather than a person for so long he became discontented with life. Eventually, when he was only 16 he bid Sukui thanks, and departed, leaving with her all the money he had saved over their time together. Striking out on his own, Yatsu took to mercenary work, using his old skills to do the dirty work of others. When he had saved enough he started changing his practices, taking jobs, only to fail or both them entirely at the expense of those who would use violence to attain what they desired. It was the folly of a young man, but it helped. As time dragged on he eventually came to grow past the horrors of his childhood, with the beauty of the world and some of the people in it becoming the things he truly cared about. At the age of 19 he had found his way to Iwagakure, where after a long period, he became an official shinobi of the village. While work dwindled for people of his profession, he kept things up, helping the community however he could in addition to protecting it whenever he had the chance. He became well known in Iwagakure for his thoughtfulness, good humor, and dedication to the people not to mention his ability to drink most under the table. During this time the Tsuchikage had been keeping a close eye on the outsider, and as his age slowly caught up to him he decided to take Kazayatsu under his wing. However, he did so privately so as not to sway the people as the reality was that he was training several younger shinobi to take his seat when he was gone. Yatsu took to the elder's teachings as if he'd been born to them, eager due to the man's accepting and open nature. The months passed and the Tsuchikage's age truly took hold, eventually driving him to hold a series of tests in which the next Tsuchikage would be chosen. The eight disciples, including Kazayatsu, took part, along with eight others. Out of the ten tests, Kazayatsu lost only one, and it was the combat stage. So it was, that day, that he was given the title of Tsuchikage elect. In the coming months he was acclimated to the position of leadership with the Tsuchikage looking over his shoulder to make sure all was well. Finally, when he felt that Kazayatsu was ready, he rested...and on that night he passed away quietly in his sleep. The next day was one of grieving for Iwagakure and no one was more sad than Yatsu, who even cried as he gave his speech at the late Tsuchikage's funeral. However, as the sun rose on the next day preparations were made for his rise to the position of Kage. So it was that two days after his mentor's funeral, Kazayatsu became the Tsuchikage. That was seven years ago and since then Yatsu has become even more adored by the citizens for the most part. Yet, beneath the surface something lurks, for no man is always as good as he says he is...and Kazayatsu is no exception. The question is, what exactly is he hiding beneath all that kindness and whimsy? What indeed. [B][U]Personality:[/U][/B] Kazayatsu, or Yatsu as he prefers, is an intelligent man with an appreciation for the finer things. Travel, art, beautiful women, theater, tea, and to a more limited extent, alcohol are the things that he lives for, preferring to just let himself coast down the highway of life. Yet he remains a man with dual nature who takes great pleasure in truly testing his mettle against those of equal strength or mind, preferably both. Though, oddly, he prefers to do so through games or intellectual jousting, rather than physical conflict. Of course, this is not to say that he has a particular distaste for conflict or strife, but rather to say that he'd prefer not to exert the physical and energetic effort that it takes to partake in such. Beyond this, Yatsu is a dedicated, eccentric, and steadfast individual who cares about both others and himself to a fairly equal degree, even going out of his way not to kill his opponents when possible. This armor affords a measure of protection against both piercing and blunt force attacks. [B]Description:[/B] Taking the form of a black seal directly over Kazayatsu's heart, this technique is a fuinjutsu that the Tsuchikage had applied to him many many years ago soon after the end of the Great War. The seal is in place to restrain the tremendous killing intent and ravenous hunger for destruction borne from his childhood during the war. In essence, this seal keeps Kuroyaju behind lock and key and few—if any—know of its existence at all. There are only two ways that the power held within this seal can be unleashed. First among them is if the seal itself is damaged significantly, specifically if one were to stab him in the chest. The second method however, is intentional and requires the Tsuchikage to utter to following chant for all to hear. Despite releasing Kuroyaju from its cage, the seal will never actually disperse. Once fully activated, the technique will lock the kage off from all of his other techniques, instead giving him a considerable boost in physical speed by way of chakra infusion and largely intuitive blasts of heat. Additionally, the technique causes his tenketsu to release a constant flow of Yōton chakra to which he will be immune for the duration of the technique. The Yōton chakra has a maximum speed, but the generation can be lessened by reducing the speed at which his chakra flows through his body. Beyond this he is afforded a passive control of his Yōton chakra, being capable of controlling its movements and speed. [B]Weakness:[/B] With all this come several downsides, the three most notable being that he ignores pain—meaning he cannot tell how wounded he is—that he cannot distinguish between enemy and ally in this state, and of course that he cannot deactivate it at will. Lead by their elders, who had known the now almost forgotten horrors of war, the Kouken family did its part in Iwagakure, playing a huge role in maintaining its many barriers and defenses. Still, despite this her first seven years in this world were joyful ones, filled even with the birth of her younger sister. Sadly, it was after these seven years passed that her story truly began, for she was deemed talented by her tutors, and so selected to carry on the tradition of their clan's Hiden Technique, the Kinzoku Youki. Her parents, fearing for her safety and wellbeing, intially resisted, but were soon bent around the fingers of the elders and made to allow the procedure to take place. Thus, on the day of her eighth birthday, Ayame had searing hot metal implanted into her arms, legs, hands, feet, and torso where they would stay for the rest of her life. The procedure took almost twelve hours, during which she passed out more than eight times and screamed so much that she lost her voice for a full week afterwards. Taking quite a long time to recover, Ayame didn't have much of an appetite or will to do anything for almost a month after that. However, with rehabilitation and training she slowly recovered from the traumatic experience, coming out of it with a newfound respect for life and normalcy. With the pain having scarred her, despite her recovery, Ayame's childhood was almost certainly over. The ensuing days were spent training with the masters of the clan and being educated by the clan elders. Ten years later, on what would have been a perfectly normal day, the lives of both sisters would change irrevocably. On that sunny day, Ayame was practicing on one of the clan's training fields, attempting to use a technique that one of her tutors was going to teach her later on, she was unaware that her younger sister had wandered onto the field. Executing the technique, she lost control and, as she turned to discharge the technique at a training post, there was her sister...right in the line of fire. Eyes widening, Ayame had no time to change tacts, and so the technique went off, creating two barriers on either side of her sister, which slammed inwards, even as a number of others cut at her, gouging open her arm while cracking other bones. Screaming out even as her sister did, she yelled for help, running to her sister to offer what little comfort she could, she held her. Still, she would never forget the look of pain and fear in sister's eyes that day. Like her eighth birthday, it appeared her eighteenth year would haunt her for the rest of her life. While her sister came out alright as healers were called quickly enough, that event drove a wedge into their relationship and so what closeness that had remained slowly dwindled. As the years passed and Ayame's fear drove her to refuse the teachings of the clan elders, she found that seemed to avoid her and the others more. Occasionally she would catch Kazue staring in her direction with a bitter look about her. Even as the two grew up and Ayame earned a place on the barrier corps like many of her ancestors and peers, this loss of companionship saddened the woman. Then, on her twentieth year during the winter season, Kazue, and their father depart for a mission outside the village. Kazue does not return, and Ayame falls into a depression, thinking her sister dead. A year passes and just when Ayame is getting her life back on track she receives a mysterious letter. In a stroke of luck, it is from her sister, telling her that she's alive. Relieved, she cries, the emotion and shock overwhelming her. Still, it is not until a year and a seven months later that she sees Kazue again. Yet, as all things do, she has changed. Unsure of where they stand after what transpired all those years ago, Ayame is hesitant around Kazue, who has changed her name to Ai. For the last five months she has been doing her utmost to rekindle the friendship and faint rivalry that they once had as young girls. [B][U]Personality:[/U][/B] Ayame is a wounded soul. She is full of grief and a measure of pain due to both her own choices and those of her clan. As a result she is a caring and compassionate woman who believes in freedom of choice, the inherent value of life, and the weight of one's actions. Ironically, despite the teachings of her clan and her own status as a shinobi of Iwagakure, Ayame is essentially a pacifist. The woman is always looking for new ways to end disputes or conflict non-violently, and should she fail she does her best to protect those innocent and guilty from harm. The chakra of these barriers is serrated and rotates along the edges, essentially turning them into claw shaped chainsaws. If any of these barriers land solid strikes they can pierce and then shred flesh or other material. The mastered version of this technique allows the user to form these rapidly around their body and release them with deadly precision. [B][U]History:[/U][/B] Like most children born into well off clans Iouchiryo, Koutaku did not have an easy childhood, as his life was filled with training more than games of hide and seek or tag. While there were lulls in his training with the clan, much of his time was consumed by his tutors, who taught him the principles of the clan, the philosophy of combat, the art of war, and the beginnings of various theories as he got older. Still, some of his earliest memories are of being with either his parents, extended family, or tutors being quizzed, tested, or taught mental tricks. For unlike many clans, the Iouchiryo sought first to harness the powers of the mind, making certain that the children of their clan—even if they did not become shinobi—would be formidable each in their own way. Beyond these memories that are other things of note, such as the mysterious nature of the world outside the compound as unlike many of his classmates, Koutaku was neither born nor raised in Konohagakure. Instead, he was raised on the secret clan compound of the mysterious Iouchiryo, a clan whose name was known in darker circles. They were like the ANBU of the shinobi world, except they were often for hire, and they were proclaimed to be even better. When most heard the name 'Iouchiryo,' it would mean nothing, but when shinobi heard it...heads turned, guards were raised, and attention was paid. It was with these strange and reclusive people he was raised, and while he was trained rigorously he was allowed to play with those of his age, and so his childhood was not terrible. Unlike many children, he came to enjoy the training as it was often made fun, engaging, or at least challenging if nothing else. As he grew older competition for attention became fierce as those who had been his friends vied for the best teachers. Koutaku however, was given—at the age of eight—a task, and that task was to move with his parents to take up residence in Konohagakure for reconnaissance and to aid in the effort to establish better relationships with the various governments of the villages allowing for better business in the future. Him and his parents accepted this mission and, disguised—thoroughly—as civilians, they made a home in the city, enrolling their supposedly eagerson into the local school while they decided to run a shop and gather information via the civilians first. In further effort to hide themselves, they changed their last names—as it was the only one the village's authorities might recognize. Koutaku took to the academy quickly, but he held back in school, mostly to feign a lack of former education, thus making him stand out less. While he was recognized as talented, no one ever really gave him a second glance after a few years had passed, as he had come to fit in just fine. He succeeded, managing to impress some of his tutors, while others didn't like him much. While he'd had a good amount of the technical knowledge taught to him by the clan in years prior, the academy did help him develop his own style, and so he did grow alongside his classmates, creating at least a measure of kinship between them. So it was that he did his parents parents proud, which helped him build his self-confidence as he graduated and became a genin. Over time, with his genin team changing members—in large part due to an unfortunate accident on one of their missions—Koutaku learned a lot, coming into contact with a wide variety of people during his team as a genin. With his team he grew considerably, becoming even more studious in his efforts to increase his own knowledge and hone his own skills. When the time came him and his team participated in the chuunin exams, and he and one other passed, with the third sadly not following in their stead due to his own lack of self-confidence. Still, intent to rise up even further in the village, Koutaku took on the mantle of chuunin and went on what missions he could, eventually even partaking in a secret mission from his parents where he secreted away a set of information they'd retrieved illegally. As a result, both he and his parents passed when investigated by the authorities, with apologies and commendations being handed out in his case for his loyalty to the village. Life moved on...and then something happened, he came across a genjutsu user and nearly died—or thought he was going to—on a mission outside of the village. This reinforced his feat of genjutsu, but also made him face it. The creature's feathers and scales are incredibly durable, allowing it to take even chakra infused strikes without being cut, though blunt force can do worse. Beyond this and its flight there are really only two notable things about Bōage. The first of these is that it becomes attuned to its user, allowing the two to act together...though at a certain cost. Second of these is the fact that Bōage's feathers can exude wind affinity chakra, which can amplify techniques of the same affinity provided they originate from its user. This effect is called Ten no umō([sub]天の羽毛[/sub] [i]'Heavenly Plumage'[/i]) and can be activated and deactivated by either Bōage or their companion. Ten no umō has the ability to amplify all of the attributes of any given wind release technique the user might use, though it does not have to amplify all of them. *Koutaku, due to the cost, only summons Bōage when absolutely necessary. [b]Weaknesses:[/b] As one might expect, Bōage is weak to fire due to its feathers and elemental affinity. Perhaps the biggest downside to summoning this creature is the steep cost. For while he had become a chuunin at a younger age than many, the boy had turned his talents towards something darker. Before the terrible boy found out, Tatsuya performed a ritual that allowed the spirit to pass on, as well as killing the animals therein and burning the laboratory down.
