I figured it would add drama, given that [hider=end of season 2 spoilers]Raava was pulled out of Vaatu, it would be logical that Vaatu would be reborn inside Raava/the Avatar.[/hider] Not to any great degree or power, just so that there's a new taint on the Avatar that wasn't there before.
