A powerhouse with some brawling, though the brawling aspect only comes out when he's either getting desperate in a pitched battle or trying to teach a young upstart a lesson. At which point he has a real mean streak. Tale of the Tape: Shaw was a promising rookie NFL linebacker but was kicked out for being too violent. One of the top companies in Japan signed him as soon as his NFL contract was up. WWA made him an offer he couldn't refuse, he was happy to play with the big boys and they were happy to poach one of Japan's biggest stars. Real Name: Jerry Shaw (someone misheard his name and it stuck) Backstage Bio: His real story is quite similar to the story that they promote, but less prestigious. He did play in the NFL but he had a very short career which ended not because of him being overly violent but because of a substance abuse issue. He did wrestle for a big Japanese promotion, but they didn't come to him, he sought them out after hearing about them from a friend in a Gold's Gym. While he was popular in Japan and had a long career he wasn't one of their biggest stars, he was somewhere in the upper mid-card. He did get a fairly generous contract due to his name recognition, but it's still far from the salaries the top names in wrestling are pulling down. Shaw was just happy to come back to America and take another shot at greatness. In-Ring Skills/Reputation: Shaw is far from a technician. He's quite capable in the ring utilizing his rather basic move set and rarely pushes himself to try new things. He is known for no-selling opponents and insisting on a stiff match, but as long as he remains within his limited repertoire he can make his moves look quite dangerous with little risk to his opponent. He does tend to look out for himself by trying to make himself look good at the expense of his opponent. Mic Skills/Reputation: Shaw has limited mic skills. Not as bad as Lex Luger or Scott Steiner, his abilities are average. He can work a crowd, but against someone who can talk he'll likely end up just throwing the first punch. He has no catch phrase. Generally he either has a manager (no long term manager just whoever is available) or is teamed up with someone as an Enforcer character. Backstage Reputation: Shaw has a good bit of influence behind the scenes, but has a very definite ceiling to his influence. He's been wrestling for long enough that he can make a fuss about newer guys Paying Their Dues, but if he were to try to prevent the rise of a promising new talent or ensure he won a big match he'd likely burn out his good will with management quickly. He isn't affiliated with any cliques, what influence he has comes from his name recognition and his ability to put on dangerous looking matches without hurting his opponent. He gets along quite well with the more experienced members of the company and with management, but tends to have issues with the younger talent. He also dislikes cruiser weights and smaller wrestlers in general. Motivation: Shaw wants the money and fame he failed to find in the NFL or Japan. He's in the WWA to get both; he believes that his shot at the top is surely just around the corner. If he can just get that shot surely he can get the fame, money, and adoration that has thus far eluded him. Hindrance: Shaw's best days are behind him. When he started in Japan he had a lot of promise, but failed to turn it in to something. By the time he came to WWA he was at the point in his career that unless he starts putting out better matches or figures out how to really connect with the fans he is unlikely to rise above his current station.
