Vesa Kaivarri, Marquess of Raikkavar
Gender: Male Sexuality: Heterosexual Age: 21 Nationality: Burlian
Physical Appearance
Vesa stands at 5'7", a little taller than most Burlians, thanks to his mixed parentage. At a weight of 140 pounds, he cuts a rather slender build; again, atypical of your average Burlian. He sports a pair of sharp, blue eyes, and coupled with his pale skin, he looks almost like a reflection of the coastal, snowbound march he rules. Again, atypical of most Burlians, he sports a head of pale, brown hair, messily cut with not much care with regards to fashion. Vesa has the face of a person who has probably never cracked a smile in years, looking dour more oft than not.
Character Appearance
For the most part, he prefers simple clothes to elaborate ones. His usual attire would be a dark grey frock coat, reaching down to his knees and cinched around the waist with a belt, the belt in turn supported by a thin shoulder belt. His pants would be of a lighter shade of grey, tucked into gaiters wrapped around his calves and boots. A wide-brimmed hat sits atop his head. Coming from rough lands, Vesa prefers to keep himself well-armed, and has a sword hanging from his left, and two pistols on the opposite side.
Background
Had Vesa been born into any other noble family, and under the same circumstances, he would have been disowned from the moment of his birth, at the very least. The product of a drunken tryst between his father and the daughter of a travelling Edochean merchant, it was only thanks to his father's strong sense of honour - and the fact that he had neither children nor wife - that he agreed to raise Vesa as a legitimate son, and even potential heir to his title. The north-eastern march where Vesa grew up was considered to be hard country, even by Burlian standards. Though there were fertile fishing grounds just off the coast, rough seas made venturing out a dangerous activity, if not outright lethal. Piracy and banditry were rampant, with brigands often hopping between the borders of Stonia and Burlia, making the job of hunting them down troublesome, if not outright impossible. As such, although Vesa was part of a noble family, he grew up in relative austerity, which was made even tougher due to his father's insistence that he learn how to fight and lead men almost as soon as he was able to hold a gun. This proved to be wise on the older Kaivarri's part, as he met an untimely end during a skirmish with a particularly large group of bandits, leaving Vesa to become a full marquess at the age of sixteen.
Personality
Hard conditions breed hard people, and Vesa is no exception. Stern, serious, and seemingly without a trace of fun in his body, he often sounds older than his twenty-one years, even if he does not look it. Whatever little humour he has is expressed in sharp, direct, and sometimes bordering on being personally offensive, quips. A man with a strong sense of honour, Vesa has a special disdain for those who would neglect duty, or those who would abuse their powers or position. Knowing the full story behind his conception, Vesa often feels ill at ease when amongst other nobles of proper birth, even within the Burlian court. Having lived simply, and with minimal luxuries, for much of his life, he feels discomfort even when in the presence of lavish displays of affluence; not that he finds it morally repugnant, but it is simply too strange for him. As such, Vesa often feels much more at home among commoners, and would much rather have his dinner in a local tavern than at a banquet, if he could have his way.
Other
- Respected and perhaps even loved by his people for his relentless efforts in fighting pirates and bandits, but thought of as a butcher by some outside of his realm, thanks in no small part to his brutal and merciless methods. - Skilled marksman and swordsman. Not at the level of someone who dedicates their life to the art, mind you, but rather, he possesses the skill that comes naturally with not dying over the course of several skirmishes. - Likes dogs and potatoes. Not necessarily in that order, or in that combination.
